Let Harper go, or

A few months ago I was sure that if I was ever to have a daughter I would love to use the name [name]Harper[/name]. I still like the name and where we live its not that popular however since finding out we are expecting twins I haven’t been able to find a twin first name as a combination.

I was thinking of maybe letting it go, we do have other first names we like. [name]Harper[/name] was quite unique on our list it’s the only unisex name we like and all our other names are quite different.

Names I like
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]

Names hubby likes
[name]Sienna[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]

I haven’t really fallen in love with any of these as a combo with [name]Harper[/name], but im wondering if the nameberry community can see any of these working with [name]Harper[/name], or can maybe suggest a name based on what we like.

You can probably tell we both like quite girly name’s, hubby’s into S sounds and me lots of A’s an L’s. NOT saying that is a requirement though, have got other names we still like but wanted to cut it down for the sake of the forum.

I think [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Mila[/name] could work. I feel like they’re spunky, like [name]Harper[/name]. Here are some suggestions…
[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Everly[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Briony[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Arwen[/name]

Oh, I do think [name]Harper[/name] could work with these! While a unisex name would more overtly match [name]Harper[/name]'s style, I think that something spunky that is on the shorter side and rising in contemporary use would still fly. [name]Harper[/name] has a slightly Southern feel to me (thanks to [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] and the Southern tradition of using surnames on girls), and some of your options have that similar rough-and-tumble-but-can-still-be-a-lady feel that I think will work great. (Note: by “rising,” I don’t mean it has to be trendy; just that while some vintage choices still feel a bit clunky, I think a vintage choice with [name]Harper[/name] would have to have a more contemporary vibe.)

I think [name]Lila[/name], [name]Mila[/name], and [name]Sadie[/name] fit really well with [name]Harper[/name]! I find some of your other choices good stylistically, but sound a bit similar: [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Aria[/name] or [name]Scarlett[/name] are pretty “ar” heavy to me. I think [name]Sienna[/name] or [name]Ayla[/name] could be ok, but they don’t grab me personally.

[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Everly[/name]
[name]Sage[/name] (instead of [name]Sadie[/name])
[name]Signy[/name] (instead of [name]Sadie[/name])

[name]Sadie[/name] [name]Harper[/name] is so cute! That would definitely be my choice.

I would urge you to focus more on choosing two names you love rather than two names that “match.” I’m a twin. My twin sister has a spunky, two-syllable K name that was popular in the '80s. I have a dated '50s name that was popular among my MOM’S middle-aged friends. It never crossed my mind that our names didn’t “go together” until I joined these forums, and none of our friends or relatives have ever once commented to us about the opposing styles. I love that my parents each chose a name that they loved and just went with it. My mom named my twin, and my dad named me. He deliberately stayed away from matchy names because he wanted me to have individuality; he said he would have named me [name]Kristy[/name] but he didn’t like how similar it was to my twin’s name. My point is, if you love [name]Harper[/name], and your husband loves [name]Sienna[/name], give your twins the gift of individuality, and give them each the gift of a name that you genuinely [name]LOVE[/name], not a name you had to choose based on how it would flow together. They won’t always be together anyway, and as they age and spread their wings, they will each be known in their own circles as individuals, and in the long run it won’t matter how their names sound together. Is it fair that [name]Harper[/name] gets the name you love and her twin just gets a name that you frantically had to find to match it? [name]Just[/name] my two cents.

I agree with alzora, find 2 names you love. [name]Harper[/name] is lovely

[name]Hi[/name] Alzora, Thank you so very much for your advice and sharing your own experience. You are most definitely right. I think being pregnant makes me overly critical. When i wasn’t pregnant i could happily dream up names that i liked and could pair FN and MN together, but as soon as it really happens i start to doubt, second guess and think too intensely.

This is silly but part of the reason i rule out say my four that i mentioned is because they are all 4 letter names, next to [name]Harper[/name] with 6letters.

Truthfully i think [name]Aria[/name] might be favorite, but as another poster pointed out, both [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Aria[/name] have that ‘ar’ sound.

I rather like [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] for twins, actually, since they both have the “ar” sound but are otherwise pretty different. They also have literary cred (the author [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] and the character [name]Scarlett[/name] O’[name]Hara[/name]), and though it might not be as obvious, [name]Scarlett[/name] happens to be a surname name as well.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Sadie[/name] with [name]Harper[/name]!

Other suggestions that “go”:
[name]Adair[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Addison[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Rue[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]

Keep [name]Harper[/name], I think you have plenty of options! To me, [name]Harper[/name] isn’t a strong “style”…it can be tomboyish or spunky, or shy or girly-girl. I actually really like [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Scarlett[/name] with [name]Harper[/name]!

I have a daughter named [name]Harper[/name] and her middle name is [name]Hazel[/name]. I think that would be an awesome twin set:) We are expecting another little lady and it was a struggle to find something to go but I think we have settled on [name]Waverly[/name]! So I would suggest for your twins
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name]

Best of luck!!!

I think [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Mila[/name] could work with [name]Harper[/name].

Or…
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Ellison[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Avery[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Savannah[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Riley[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name]

Actually my favorite is [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name]
