So, as you may have guessed, I’m rewriting the old tale of [name]Cinderella[/name]… only this time from the prince’s perspective.
His name is [name]Christopher[/name]. He is a little bit of a corn ball, has dramatic tendencies, and is in the process of learning about the lives of the ‘commoners’ who live in his parents’ kingdom. He borders on the self centered side, but truly does have a kind heart, and has almost a black and white sense of justice. I.E. something is either right or it’s wrong. Something is either good or it isn’t. You understand. Currently [name]Christopher[/name] has met [name]Cinderella[/name] before. And let’s just say their initial meeting went less than stellar. He suspects that [name]Cinderella[/name] is a fake name, and is on a sort of quest to find her true identity.
Now, I’m having trouble with renaming [name]Cinderella[/name].
I know I don’t want [name]Ella[/name].
I don’t want [name]Ashley[/name].
I had decided on [name]Ashlyn[/name], because it reminds me of ashes, or cinders. But now, it just doesn’t seem to fit [name]Cinderella[/name]'s spunkier personality.
What do you think of [name]Ember[/name] as a given name?
Important symbols in the story are…
the apple tree
and
the cornflower
Other characters:
[name]Benjamin[/name]- [name]Christopher[/name]'s older brother
[name]Edwin[/name]- a friend
[name]Constantina[/name]- the stern queen, [name]Christopher[/name]'s mother
[name]Maximilian[/name]- the king, [name]Christopher[/name]'s father, dotes on the queen
[name]Prudence[/name] and [name]Constance[/name]- [name]Cinderella[/name]'s stepsisters
[name]Lucille[/name]- an older servant woman
[name]Hedy[/name]- a young servant girl
Thank you for reading this lengthy post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Renaming characters is hard, especially if the name has to fit with their personality.
I like [name]Ember[/name], but it seems a bit too… serious? For me, anyway.
I have a question - do you not want the name to end in -ella, or be [name]Ella[/name]? Some suggestions are:
[name]Ashby[/name] - starts with [name]Ash[/name]- but is more unique.
Ashin - starts with [name]Ash[/name]-, again, and to me it seems spunky.
[name]Cecilia[/name]/[name]Cecelia[/name] - An alliteration would be fun, formal but vintage.
[name]Christina[/name] - more formal (all of your names are) but very cute nn and a great “coincidence” that the prince’s and [name]Cinderella[/name]'s names both start with [name]Chris[/name]-.
[name]Cordelia[/name] - Same as [name]Cecelia[/name].
[name]Ebba[/name] - similar in sound to [name]Ember[/name]
[name]Henrietta[/name] - a strong name, and if your character is ‘spunky’, then the cool nickname [name]Henry[/name]/[name]Ettie[/name] applies here.
[name]Ingrid[/name] - spunky, formal, unusual.
[name]Stella[/name] - can totally see [name]Cinderella[/name] with this name.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] - a strong, formal (fits the style with your other names) name.
Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions, deathbarbie34. I see some really good ones here. You’ve given me some good ideas with [name]Henrietta[/name]!
I like [name]Henrietta[/name] in the last post, and with the cornflower association I also thought of the similar-feeling [name]Cornelia[/name].
Thanks again, lillylunapotter. I had not thought of [name]Cornelia[/name]!
[name]How[/name] about [name]September[/name] nn [name]Ember[/name]? I’m not sure if it “goes” with the other names in the story, but it would kinda work with the apple tree association since [name]September[/name] is the beginning of apple season (at least where I live)
Thanks, fellow berries. You’ve been a great help.
