Let's talk about Adele - only a singer's name?

I love the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. We were considering it as a middle for our first - she was [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] for a very long time, but my DH convinced me is too popular because of the singer and she ended as [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. It was the beginning of 2011. Our next child was a wonderful boy, but now I don’t know the sex yet and this name cames to my mind again. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you thing [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is only singer’s name? Or do you have more associations? Can you give me some sets with this name as I’m still considering it? Please!

I do not think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is only a singers name. Of course, people are going to think of the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] first, but [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is a beautiful name and can fit many people/personalities. I would not worry about this if you love the name.
If it really bothers you or your husband, change it up a little! What about [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], etc?

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] was a name long before the singer arrived on the scene. Most people would probably strongly associate it with the singer but my earliest connection was with the novel, “[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]”. There was a little [name_m]French[/name_m] girl named [name_f]Adele[/name_f] in this book who was the ward of [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Rochester[/name_m]. Personally, [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] are too similar for siblings. Perhaps you should use it as a middle name.

Yes, the [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] connection! I would’ve loved to have named our daughter [name_f]Adele[/name_f] because that’s one of my favorite books (one of the few I’ve read multiple times!), but I couldn’t get past the fact that everyone would think of the singer. Still, if you’re braver than I am, go for it–it’s beautiful!

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] you’ve seen this connection too! [name_f]Adele[/name_f] first came to my mind just after ‘[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]’ keen reading. I’m considering it as a middle - some sets’please?

My cousin (who is in her 30s) is named [name_f]Adele[/name_f] so, for me at least, it isn’t too strong an association with the singer as I knew the name long before she hit the scene

I don’t think it’s only associated with the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. She may go by one name, but it’s not like she’s [name_f]Madonna[/name_f]. There are plenty of other [name_f]Adele[/name_f]'s in the world. I think of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], too. I’m considering it as a middle name.

Another [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] association here! There is another singer named [name_f]Adele[/name_f] ____ that I heard about on NPR, but I can’t find any information about her right now.

From your signature, I really like [name_f]Romola[/name_f] or [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f], but then [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]'s mn is [name_m]Roman[/name_m]… What do you think of Chrysanthe, [name_f]Freja[/name_f], or [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]? I think they sound nice with [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m].

I don’t automatically associate it with the singer. I knew/know an [name_f]Adele[/name_f] way before the singer entered the music industry. It’s definitely usable. And if you’re still only going to use it as a middle name I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Like many berries have said before on other threads a child doesn’t go by his/her middle name on an everyday occurrence.

Of course it’s not! I have known a (gorgeous) [name_f]Adele[/name_f] since we were both teenagers, and that’s my association before the singer.

I think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] should get a lot more love and use, personally. Go for it!
