Now let’s talk about [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]. It’s a name I’ve always liked. I’m not pregnant (yet), but in case we have another son, I’m looking for a name to honor my foster dad, who passed away not long ago. His name was André.
[name_m]Andreas[/name_m] is the variant I like the most. There’s also the Dutch form Andries, but I’m not a fan of that. Or of [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. Then there’s [name_m]Anders[/name_m], but “anders” is the Dutch word for “different”, so I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea. So [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] would have to be the one. There are a few concerns though. First of all, does it work for English speaking people? We live in Belgium but my husband’s British and our son will be raised bilingual. There’s also a chance we’d move to the UK at some point. Another concern is the nickname. I hate, and I mean absolutely detest, [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. Is there any way to avoid that?
Any ideas are welcome, opinions, anything at all. Thanks!
I think [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] sounds just fine! It’s easily pronounced and has a nice flair to it
[name_m]Andreas[/name_m] was on my list for a long time. Now my style is very different but I still love it. Dre is so cute too!
[name_m]Andreas[/name_m] is quite handsome! I know an [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] here in the States, and he doesn’t have a problem with pronunciation. Spanish is his native language though.
[name_m]Andreas[/name_m] is a great name for working in multiple cultures and languages. I don’t think you’d get too many pronunciation issues even where I live in the U.S.
I really like [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] - I live in the UK and I don’t think pronunciation would be a problem As for nicknames, Dre is a good suggestion, maybe [name_u]Ray[/name_u]? [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_m]Anders[/name_m] at a push? It’s a hard one!
I know an [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] in the states and he just goes by his full name.
I love [name_u]Ari[/name_u], but it’s a bit of a stretch… I just hope that in the end he’ll go by his full name, like our son [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. Nobody’s called him [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] yet, and I hope it stays that way.
I love [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]! It’s one of my favourite boys’ names. I think it’s familiar enough to most people in the UK for the pronunciation not to be a big issue.
As for the nickname, I know several Andrews who are just [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], not [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. I think if you introduce your son as [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] in the UK people will not insist on calling him [name_u]Andy[/name_u] (most people at least!).
