Let's talk about Audrey!

Since I can’t seem to narrow down these new crushes of mine, I figured I’d take a bit deeper of a look at each one individually, and maybe I can make some decisions (and find a combo for the ones I want to keep!). First up is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]–out of all of the new favorites, this one has been growing on me for a long time and I feel like it’s a favorite of the new favorites. It feels like a more timeless version of my name, which I love–since one of the things I dislike about [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is that it’s so trendy. :frowning:

WDYT of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]? What sort of little person do you picture with the name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it suits my other favorites, or is it too non-frills (or even too vintage?) for the rest of my list? And–I don’t want to ask this, but I feel I should–is it too close to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]?

And I’m not going to go all-out on combos yet, but I’d take suggestions if you want to offer them. I’m thinking something really pretty, soft, to soften up [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] a little. I don’t feel that it’s harsh, but I do feel that it is harsher than a lot of my favorites, if that makes sense. I like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] so far, but I’m not the hugest fan of the one [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] I know, so I’m not sure I’m terribly interested in using it. I have liked [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] in the past, but I’m not sure how I feel about it anymore.

Thanks, ladies!

I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] too - more than the popularity, the harshness of the name has always swayed me and kept me from adding it to my list.

I have synesthesia, and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is far on the warm side of the spectrum for me. It’s a warm orange, an intense color like fire. ([name_m]Tyger[/name_m]! [name_m]Tyger[/name_m]! Burning bright, in the forests of the night…).

(Judging by your sig) I don’t think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is too different, frilly or vintage from your other names.
Is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] too close to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]? I feel so, unfortunately.

I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] is pretty good! I like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] It works perfectly with your other names  It’s hard to say what I picture a little [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] looking like, as I’ve never met one, but I imagine one being sweet and lovely to deal with! I have [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] on my list, so these are the combos I have with it.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. It’s classy, feminine and works on a little girl or a grown woman. I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] would be really pretty with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f] from your signature. If you like nicknames, [name_f]Drina[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch, but it’s really pretty and makes [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] more frilly. I think an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] could be anyone. It’s girly enough to wear pink and boyish enough to climb trees, and it wouldn’t be too much for a shy girl to handle. I really like names that could suit any personality - [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is gorgeous, but if you haven’t got the personality it really doesn’t work.

It might be kind of close to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], but I wouldn’t worry about it. If you were deliberately naming a child after yourself, that would be one thing, but if you just happen to like a name that sounds kind of like your name it’s not really an issue in my opinion.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] are both beautiful combinations. I can’t really think of anything to offer – [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]? [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a wonderful name! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn and [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] and classic. I see a preppy little girl with a tomboy streak. I rather like its difficult to make a nn for it because then any nn could be a special pet name that isn’t necessarily part of her name.

I think it fits your other names- it goes well with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] as well and I also get frustrated with its trend-factor. I like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] a lot and love how classically pretty it is without the baggage of it being a trend.
I used to have a blonde cabbage patch doll named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I think of a pretty little girl, gentle, motherly, friendly, shy at first-blonde with blue eyes or dark brown hair with green, brown, or hazel eyes. Small/med frame, loves purple, pink, butterflies, very harmonious personality and it intelligent. She doesn’t want to see anyone or anything hurt.
Anyways, as for it sounding like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], I don’t think so really. Awe sound instead of [name_u]Ash[/name_u] sound and ree sound instead of [name_u]Lee[/name_u] sound. I wouldn’t be concerned about that.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] (so-lay)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Liviana or Livianne
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Ieva (long e soun-yehv-ah)= ee-yeh-vah
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Demaris (dem+air+iss)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Calista[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a really soft name to me - I think because I picture autumness, so it’s very golden and mellow (and leafy!), which also means that a flowery name (like [name_f]Camellia[/name_f]) is perfect with it. [name_u]Cam[/name_u]élia is also gorgeous, but it might be too associated with your not-nice [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] (what a pity, it’s such a nice name, how very rude of her to ruin it for you!):

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Fidelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] (I pronounce it NEH-uh-mee, so it sounds a bit better like that than nay-OH-mee)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Nathalia[/name_f]/[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Vittoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] (very pretty, hopefully far enough away from [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] for you)

Also seconding [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] - good luck with narrowing down the rest

I absolutely adore [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. My cousin’s 4 year old daughter is named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. She is a charmingly impish blue eyed blonde with spunk and personality to spare. So of course, she’s the first person that pops into my mind.
Second, I think of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn who is, imo, the epitome of class and elegance.
I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and don’t think it’s harsh at all.

@ciottolo - haha! [name_m]How[/name_m] rude of her indeed! Besides, my earliest and fondest memories of my mom are her working in her flowerbeds, so I love flower names in her honor (which is probably why I don’t try to talk myself out of using flower names, when I already have [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] on my list already, and am considering [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] and [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] to boot!). In all honesty, I don’t think she knows I don’t harbor the best opinion of her–honestly, we were just coworkers. We didn’t really even talk. She just liked to boss me around because she was the caterer and I just did food prep, and I am a wee bit passive aggressive. That, and she was hired months after me and was promoted within about two months’ time, which really aggravates me (seeing as I’m the one with the degree and can’t even find a job in my field!). Obviously, some pent-up feelings there, hahaha. I think [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] is pretty, and I would love to use a quirky, usable, not-outlandish (read: not [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]!) flower name in my mom’s honor. So feel free to suggest away. I also seem to be liking C_____a names with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]–I’ve already considered [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], as well (and I love @ashleyjuliette’s suggestion of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Calista[/name_f]–is [name_f]Calista[/name_f] too exotic with the vintagey, regal [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]?).

@meganleda - your second cousin sounds adorable! Totally makes me love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] more.

I’ve always loved [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. I think it’s very underestimated, especially with more modern [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] & [name_u]Auburn[/name_u].
If I ever decide to name my child [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], her full name would probablly be [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f].
But [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] really is a great combination.

I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is classy and beautiful! [name_f]Love[/name_f] it!

I really love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. Pretty, classy, and professional.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is lovely! I don’t think it’s like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] at all. Stylistically, they’re very different names. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is gaining popularity lately, but it’s such a beautiful classic that doesn’t really bother me. As you can see from my signature, I’m an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] fan, too!

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is an historic English saint and a classic and elegant name. I also think it has the smart-girl feel to it. I would probably use [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], but there are lots of possibilities! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is one of my favorite combinations and the name of a good restaurant in [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lenore[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f], or [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are some other possibilities.

Hmm, I already have [name_f]Camille[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I like it with the tie to [name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_m]Saint[/name_m]-Saens. I think I like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] more than [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f], but both are pretty. I like [name_f]Lenore[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but they all seem sort of boring with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]? I do like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], but I wonder if that’s a bit mismatched, too.

… and pretty thought [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is, I think I’ll avoid that one. I have lots of family in and around [name_u]Philly[/name_u], and I’m not sure that’d be the best choice, haha.

My sweet 12 year old niece is named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. She’s named after each of her grandmother’s. I think it works with some of the names on your list quite well. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] would all be absolutely lovely siblings for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Callista[/name_f]…the name [name_f]Callista[/name_f] has grown on me, but I do think it compliments the sound of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] with its hard c and frilly ending. I think it is balanced as far as sound and lettering is concerned. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] has far more vowels and vowel sounds than [name_f]Callista[/name_f]* Some more C names with A endings for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]:
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] -ok this doesn’t end in A but I thought of it and liked it a lot

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Claria (clar rhymes with car -long e sound ah)

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cambria[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Camira[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] -this may sound more exotic than [name_f]Callista[/name_f], but I think it sounds pretty with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].

My grandma was named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], so she is always what I first associate with the name! [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] eyes, very opinionated & athletic! I quite like it, but I know she really hated her name, and went by [name_f]Susan[/name_f] for quite a while (my own mother was quite shocked when she discovered that her mum’s name was not actually [name_f]Susan[/name_f], but [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]!). It’s a name that is half-heartedly on my own list, mostly because I like the idea of honoring her with a possible daughter, but since we didn’t use family names with our boys, I’d feel weird about introducing ones for subsequent children.

I’m still not sure 100% whether or not I’ll keep [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], but I think I’ve found a combo if I do: [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. WDYT? Yay or nay? I’m really loving it today.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is beyond lovely! I really like it
