Let's talk about Castor!

Opinions on [name_m]Castor[/name_m] please!
Also what would you call siblings to [name_m]Castor[/name_m] (in particular a brother?)
Thanks!

Anyone?

Reminds me of [name_m]Castor[/name_m] Transports (transport of nucular waste), which, when they happen, always kindle a heated debate. I do think it is usable but I’m not a fan of the association, so I would personally never use it (nor could I imgine anyone I know to even consider it), though it does have a pretty sound, a mix of [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and [name_m]Nestor[/name_m].

Ooh I’ve never heard of [name_m]Castor[/name_m] transports, thanks for raising that I’ll have a look into it

I thought of [name_m]Castor[/name_m] Oil at first  I feel like he might be mistaken for [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] alot?

Immediately all I can see is [name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil!
Maybe if I actually met a boy with the name I could eventually get past that association, but for now that’s all I can think of. [name_m]Cas[/name_m]/[name_u]Cass[/name_u] would be a nice nickname option though.

I do understand about the castor oil thing- however it was something I read in a nameberry blog that made me realise it really doesn’t bother me…
Many people wouldn’t think twice about someone called [name_f]Olive[/name_f] despite the food and oil associations so I think people would also get past the oil associations when they know someone called [name_m]Castor[/name_m]- the handsomeness of the name makes up for the oil thing for me personally!
Thanks so much for everyone’s feedback

Does anyone have any thoughts about sibling names for [name_m]Castor[/name_m]?

I love [name_m]Castor[/name_m]- perfect example of how you can go very unusual for a name yet keep the actual name very clean simple and handsome

For brothers I like- [name_m]Rochus[/name_m], [name_m]Remus[/name_m] (too much to have two halves of famous pairs? [name_m]Abel[/name_m] is nice as well though), [name_m]Liev[/name_m], Alector, Demas, [name_m]Timo[/name_m], [name_m]Tavish[/name_m], Zephon, [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]”, [name_m]Hadrian[/name_m], [name_m]Lucan[/name_m], [name_m]Otho[/name_m], [name_u]Seneca[/name_u], Tiber, [name_u]Rafe[/name_u], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], and [name_u]Dane[/name_u]

@gr19 oh my goodness I think you’ve made me fall in love with [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] by suggesting [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a nn- so handsome!!
[name_m]Castor[/name_m] & [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] aka [name_m]Cas[/name_m] & [name_u]Bo[/name_u] swoon

Unusual! Never heard it before but has definitely intrigued me

As a lover of both astronomy and mythology I can tell you that this name has a long and detailed history. A history he shares with twin brother [name_m]Pollux[/name_m].

Myth has it, they are twin brothers who have different fathers; [name_m]Castor[/name_m], the mere mortal son of [name_m]King[/name_m] of Sparta, Tyndareus and divine son of the god [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], [name_m]Pollux[/name_m].

When [name_m]Castor[/name_m] was killed by Idas, [name_m]Pollux[/name_m] turned to his father [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] and asked him to immortalize the twins. [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] obliged and [name_m]Castor[/name_m] and [name_m]Pollux[/name_m] were placed forever among the stars to be known as the constellation [name_u]Gemini[/name_u]. The Twins.

I just adore the name [name_m]Castor[/name_m] and [name_m]Pollux[/name_m] as a brothers name for sure. You could call him [name_f]Lux[/name_f] for short! So cute!!!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Castor[/name_m], [name_m]Cas[/name_m]- names are always my favorite. It’s got a great sound similar to other boys’ names, but not common at all. [name_m]Pollux[/name_m] is obviously what comes to mind first as a brother for [name_m]Castor[/name_m], but that’s way too themed for me.

[name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil? Eh… I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I first thought of castor oil, then [name_m]Fidel[/name_m] Castro, then wheels…

The thing that immediately popped into my head was [name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil. And to a previous poster who asked what the issue is with that association since we use names like Oilve and people have no problem with that? Well, olive is a symbolic food enjoyed by many people and cultures the world over–it has very positive connotations. [name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil is something you drink to cure constipation… i.e. it’s a laxative (a very well known one and not at all a gentle one). I’m not normally one to cow to the idea that a name is unusable because the kid will be made fun of in middle school. But this one, in my mind, is most definitely unusable. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t name your kid this unless you want to torture him. Seriously.

Are there any UK name berries that would like to comment?
I’m really wondering whether the whole oil thing is more an American problem. I’ve never once used, bought or even come across [name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil in my life- perhaps it’s called something different here?

This is exactly what I was thinking. [name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil is so you can poop - or some women believe it will bring on labor. Maybe it is an American thing?

If it weren’t for that I would totally be on board!

Reminds me of castor oil. Yick.

I’m from the UK, never come across [name_m]Castor[/name_m] Oil, so I’d definitely say it’s usable over here

I’m from Australia and I’m afraid the castor oil association is too strong for me to like it.
