Let's talk about Felix

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] has been on our list for ages. It’s one of my absolute favourites, I love everything about it. My husband likes it too and agrees that we should consider it if we ever have a second son. But… He’s also worried people will think of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat. To me that’s not really an issue. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat is not unheard of where I live, but it was never as popular here as it was in the US or the UK. My husband’s British, so for him the connection is stronger.

What are your general thoughts on [name_m]Felix[/name_m]? Any ideas what to pair it with? And does it remind you of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat? If so, do you think it’s still usable?

I’m 16 and have not ever heard of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat. I think that a baby born today will most likely grow up without knowing the reference.

As far as [name_m]Felix[/name_m] goes, it’s one of my favorite names! I think a 3-syllable middle name works best with [name_m]Felix[/name_m].

Very nice name.

It does remind me of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat, unfortunately. I’ve never actually met a human named [name_m]Felix[/name_m] but I do know some felines and canines named [name_m]Felix[/name_m], so those two factors combined don’t make it very appealing on a baby to me. Good luck naming

It used to remind me of the cat, but since I’ve seen it so often, I’ve gotten over it, and I think most people forget once they know a person with the name.

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a nice name.

I don’t know much about [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the [name_f]Cat[/name_f], but from my childhood I remember [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], the Odd Couple, on TV.

So I associate [name_m]Felix[/name_m] with feline and tidy and neat and OCD and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] with grouches and slobs.

That being said, I can appreciate both names in general too, though I much prefer [name_m]Felix[/name_m] to [name_m]Oscar[/name_m].

I’m aware of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat, but I wouldn’t think of it if I met a kid named [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. And since the name is becoming more popular these days, it’s even more unlikely that anyone will have that association 5, 10, or 30 years down the road.

I also feel that what cat associations there are have faded as the name has become more popular. I just think it’s a really nice name.
