Let's Talk About Frank

[name_m]Frank[/name_m] has been on my mind lately and I have to come to the conclusion that I quite like it. But I want to collect some thoughts and see what you think of it. Is it dated, fusty? etc

And what would you suggest as a middle name? I’m looking for something unexpectant and perhaps out there.

It’s my son’s name so I am strongly in the “love” camp. Where we live it’s a fairly unexpected choice for kids these days. People have had really positive reactions when we tell them his name and if they don’t like it (which not everyone will), they’ve been kind enough to keep it to themselves.

It’s nice to know there is someone who has a son called [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I agree it’s rather unexpectant although I feel like it would be right at home in my community.

I really like the idea of [name_u]Francis[/name_u] nn [name_m]Frank[/name_m] because of [name_m]Frank[/name_m] Sinatra. But I can’t get past the fact that [name_m]Frank[/name_m] is an adjective, and not necessarily a good one. I was in a class with a [name_m]Frank[/name_m] once and thought how strange that was almost every time the teacher called his name!

I really like [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I know 2 little [name_m]Frank[/name_m]'s that are adorable! [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] is on my list for a future boy, but my husband is very picky. I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is a modern nickname for [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], but [name_m]Frank[/name_m] is great as well. If I were you, I would use it !

I really like [name_m]Frank[/name_m], especially as a nn for [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]. I think it’s a little dusty but nothing a bit of use couldn’t fix

I like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] Nothing wrong with it at all.

is a great trait and name.

I love [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] too.

[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_m]Davenport[/name_m]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_m]Herbert[/name_m]

Frankly, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] just seems unfinished. I like it as a nn for [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], though.

means candid, right? I think that is a nice, straightforward meaning.

I don’t really like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] (it reminds me of hotdogs…) but I do like [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u].

One of my [name_m]BIL[/name_m]'s is [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] and goes by [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. When I first met him it took me by surprise to see it used on a child but he is most definitely a [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. As far as I know he’s never gotten any bad reactions although at 11 he’s now insisting on [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and not [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
I would say its completely usable for a child today. To me it would be rather refreshing.

I like [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I brought it up with my mother once as a possible contender (baaaaaad idea). She completely shot it down with all these negative associations the name has. Whatever. I still like it.

I really like [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. And I don’t like the longer forms like [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]–That just feels to me like you’re trendifying a traditional name, like all the [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]-ing and such. What’s wrong with good old [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? Much more classic.

I also love [name_m]Earnest[/name_m], which has a similar slightly dated quality, and meaning. In fact, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] are a fantasy twin boy set of mine.

I have an uncle who was baptised [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] but he always was called [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. He’s one of the most intelligent, cultured, creative and artistic members of my family (he’s an actor, writer and musician, husband, father, DIY guy etc…) so I have nothing but positive things to say about the name. It’s short but can stand alone, it’s sweet but not weak as it has an underlying strength underneath the simple surface. It’s no-nonsense, down-to-earth, approachable and quite unexpected in this era. Let’s me frank, it’s a fine name! Forgive me, I couldn’t resist!

Oh, forgot to give mn suggestions for [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. Since it’s a word, I would stay clear of another word name and being short it pairs better with something longer.

[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

@lesliemarion- Candid, yes, but I tend to think of it as having harsher connotations… Like saying something that’s (technically) true but not what your listener wants to hear. I could be a bit mixed up though!

[name_m]How[/name_m] funny that you’d mention these, mischa!! I am a firm believer in [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] but because I’m not really interested in obvious nn [name_m]Frank[/name_m] (sorry, guys!), I would opt to use [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] in the middle spot to avoid confusion. World renown [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_m]Graham[/name_m]'s middle name is [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], which he also bestowed on his son (who is the president of Operation [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] Child/Samaritan’s Purse): certainly great namesakes!

One of my ABSOLUTE forever-name-loves is [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]/[name_m]Tobiah[/name_m], of which I love paired with [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] (see my thread, Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums). Hubby doesn’t like it for fear of “[name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Frank[/name_m]” aka “To be [name_m]Frank[/name_m]”. LOL! I believe that [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] sounds quite stately and solid nevertheless; like the boy/man who’d carry such a name would be reliable and strong and kindhearted.

I know a [name_m]Frank[/name_m], he goes to school with me. I’ve never been quite the fan, but I guess I can see the vintage charm to it. [name_m]Frank[/name_m] Sinatra is my only reason to even consider the name. Otherwise, I do believe it’s a bit dated and I’m not sure it’ll ever see a comeback.

Thanks for all the great opinions guys. And @mischa I really like the combinations [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. Another combination I thought of yesterday of [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m].

My friends baby is [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]-pretty cool eh.
