I posted about [name_u]Kit[/name_u] in the girls’ page, but I also would love your thoughts on [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a boys’ name!
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a NN for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]” [name_m]Harrington[/name_m] who plays [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] in Game of Thrones), but I don’t see us using [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. Are there any other boys’ names that you think could be shortened to [name_u]Kit[/name_u]? Also, do you think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is better suited as a boy or girl NN?
Oh, one more thing: what do you think about [name_u]Kit[/name_u] being a NN for [name_u]Kim[/name_u] with a MN starting with a “T”? My late father-in-law was [name_u]Kim[/name_u], and my husband reeeally loves it for a boy (me, not so much). For example, could [name_u]Kim[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] be called [name_u]Kit[/name_u]? ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is really just an example, but I’m thinking a “T” MN would have to happen for [name_u]Kit[/name_u] to work here). Suggestions? Thoughts?
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I prefer it as a boys name, though this could be because the only [name_u]Kit[/name_u] I personally know is male so that’s how I view it!
It’s my favourite nn for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] though like you I’m not sure I’d ever actually use the full name - I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on it’s own too much!
For other full names that [name_u]Kit[/name_u] could be a nn for, what about [name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], or [name_m]Beckett[/name_m]? You could even use names with the initials [name_u]KIT[/name_u] like [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
I’m not keen on [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nn for [name_u]Kim[/name_u]. [name_u]Kim[/name_u] is so short anyway, and they’re so similar it seems silly to have [name_u]Kim[/name_u] as the official name but to actually call him [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
I absolutely love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for a boy! I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u]'s so adorable, and thanks to a character association, I think he’s really handsome, kind, caring, considerate, passionate and willing to fight and stand up for what he believes in when he has to. I like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and I have [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] with possible nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (as one of his middles has a T) so I definitely think [name_u]Kim[/name_u] plus a middle name starting with T is perfectly fine for nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I do agree that [name_u]Kim[/name_u] is quite short itself, but it could make a good compromise. Personally I prefer [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on a boy, but it can definitely work as a nn for a girl, I just find it difficult to imagine myself right now.
I don’t really like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nn for [name_u]Kim[/name_u]. But they are similar enough that [name_u]Kit[/name_u] in and of itself could be a tribute to [name_u]Kim[/name_u].
Other than the great suggestions that have already been made, I can’t think of any full names that [name_u]Kit[/name_u] could be a nn name for. But I adore [name_u]Kit[/name_u] by itself. Also there is a unique biblical name, [name_m]Kemuel[/name_m], that is similar to [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] but could easily shorten to [name_m]Kem[/name_m]/[name_u]Kim[/name_u].
I really like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for a boy. If [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] doesn’t appeal, I say use [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as the given name. No need to strangle [name_u]Kit[/name_u] out of any other name or combination of names.
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for a boy or a girl. It’s my favorite [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn and definitely the best [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] nn as well. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is on my shortlist for a boy, but, like you, [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] isn’t really my thing. I’ve considered [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], but I might just prefer the name on its own.
I also think that [name_u]Kit[/name_u] can be an honor name for [name_u]Kim[/name_u] on its own.
If you don’t care for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], you could always do a variant for a full name instead, such as [name_m]Kristof[/name_m] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] would work as a nickname for either of those.
I know a [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Kim[/name_u], so what about [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]? It’s a stretch. I do like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], and they seem less of a stretch.
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u], it’s one of my favorite names. I like the idea of [name_m]Christian[/name_m] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]” the best.
I suppose [name_u]Kim[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]” could work, but it seems a bit weird, like calling [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or something like that.
Like you, I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] but not [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. If I used [name_u]Kit[/name_u], it would probably be as a full name, but I’m also not creative enough to come up with alternative long forms for it. There are other variants of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] of course ([name_m]Christian[/name_m]?) so maybe one of those would appeal?
I also love your idea of [name_u]Kim[/name_u] T. I think of [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] along the same lines - spunky, short names that work for either gender. But if you only ever plan to call him [name_u]Kit[/name_u], I think it’s a perfectly good honor name for [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and you could just as easily use [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as the first name. (On the other hand, [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m]'s parents didn’t do that, and he didn’t realize his full name was [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] until he was 11! So the worst thing that happens is your kid gets a funny story out of the [name_u]Kim[/name_u]/[name_u]Kit[/name_u] confusion!)
Personally, when I hear [name_u]Kit[/name_u], I think of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Harington. This is a good thing, though, since he is such a talented actor! One of my favourite actors!
I prefer [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a boy’s name, to be honest. I knew quite a few people called [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] growing up. I really love the name [name_u]Kit[/name_u], though, and I love [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]!
I tend to associate [name_u]Kit[/name_u] w/girls’ names, but it’s because most of the places I’ve heard of Kits are for females ([name_u]Kit[/name_u] [full name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]] in the [name_f]Sue[/name_f] [name_m]Barton[/name_m] series; [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [nn from her last name, Kittredge] in the American Girls series; & my own daughter has gone by [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for over ten years [full name [name_f]Kiersten[/name_f]]). [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a boys’ name is very British to me; [name_m]Dick[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] used it as a nn for a character in two of his racing mysteries (the character’s full name was [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], because he was born on 12/25…he had a twin sister named [name_f]Holly[/name_f]). But there’s also [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Carson[/name_u], the American explorer.
I’m not as crazy about [name_u]Kim[/name_u] as a boys’ name, although I know it traditionally was (& I have from my childhood a Scholastic book called One Kitten for [name_u]Kim[/name_u], & [name_u]Kim[/name_u] is a boy). It seems like (at least in the US) it would take a lot of work to reclaim it from the girls’ side. Masculine full names for [name_u]Kim[/name_u] could be [name_m]Kimball[/name_m] or [name_m]Kimble[/name_m].
