Let's talk about Lily, Lily, Lily [War of the Lilies, take 572?]

I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it. My grandmother passed away in 2010, and before she was laid to rest, the last “gift” she gave me was a lily, and ever since, I’ve known I’ve wanted a [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It could go straight to the top; I wouldn’t care. I’d still want a [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It is the most symbolic, significant, sentimental name I’ve ever come across–it’s the only name that has the power to bring me to tears and make me smile all at once. It completely embodies my grandmother to me, and I’m absolutely set on keeping it on my list.

However, I prefer a fuller name for it. I feel like I’ve addressed this a million times, but I still am unable to decide–with all those lovely [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names out there, which one do you choose?! [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is so frilly and sweet and innocent; [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]'s so strong and quirky and beautiful; [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]'s so dainty and sweet and girly and unexpected. I love them all.

Which do you prefer? Does one go better with the names in my signature? What would you expect a [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] to be like?

Thanks, ladies!

[name_u]Ash[/name_u], I love your story and… I think you should use it someday (because the reason why you love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so sentimental and touching).

My favourite is always [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]. [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is a bit too frilly for my taste (though I love a handful of frilly names). [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is sweet, but I feel it lacks something, so I prefer [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

I agree, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is my favorite.

I don’t really like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillianna[/name_f] etc

I do like [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] though. the “th” sound at the end makes it feel a lot lighter than the other options.
Maybe you could find out what type of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] she gave you and play off of that?
I immediately thought of [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and while they would be a bit much there are a ton of options.
Like [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] could be a great boys name to honor your grandmothers gift with if she gave you an [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]/Trumpet [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

Or if it’s was a Martagon [name_f]Lily[/name_f] you could go for a double first where [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is the nn and mn and the fn starts with an M.

I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] the best. If you prefer a longer version, I like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] seems to staid to stand up to the beauty of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is all froth and overly sweet to me.

Definitely [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]! It sounds very sleek, very refined, which I think are perfect qualities in a full name. Especially next to the adorable [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] provides that formal aspect to a name that makes it feel complete.

I vote [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! She sounds great with your other names and while I really like [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] to me the sound too close to [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]. If it weren’t for that my favorite for you would be [name_f]Liliana[/name_f].

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. It is underused and uncommon and is simple but beautiful.

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] would be my choice as well - it is like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] from your list in its unpretentious elegance, but then lives up to the spunkiness of [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] - just the perfect option really! And your [name_f]Lily[/name_f] story is so touching and beautiful.

I love [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. I can never decide whether I like the spelling [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] best; but nonetheless, it’s a beautiful name. It seems to hold a lot more weight than [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], which are both very pretty but I feel like they’re all sugary sweet frilliness with little substance.

I like [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillia[/name_f] the best.

I like Lillian/Lilian, I don’t have a preference between the two spellings. Maybe this is weird, but it reminds me of the Rugrats, and Lil was fierce and funny and theatrical and sweet. She was always my favorite when I was little.

I think Liliana and Lilia are very pretty, lacy, flowing, romantic names, which is fine, but not my style. I like girls names to be feminine, but spirited. I would want my girls to have guts.

Thanks, ladies! I think (progress?!) I might be actually leaning toward [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. I’m really loving the femininity and unexpected sweetness of [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] at the moment–there’s just something about it! Does [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] fit well enough with my other favorites? I’ve always felt that [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] always suited my style more, which is why I’ve never really seriously considered [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] in the past…

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is my favourite. I love that it’s femme, but not sugary, I love that it ends in a rounded-off, simple n, I love its rolling 3-syllable rhythm.

Unmentioned so far, I also like [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] but they’re a bit more “cute” so I’m never sure if I’d be willing to commit as a first name. I keep [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] on my middle name list. Is it terrible?

I like just [name_f]Lily[/name_f] more than [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] doesn’t quite work for me, not sure why.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so beautiful. I like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], but [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is gorgeous too. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] holds that sweetness and innocence, and [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] has a tomboy side. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are beautiful though.

@stripedsocks - I love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]! I never commit to it because I feel like it’s just way too cutesy. But I love it. (It could be amazing as a middle!) I keep it on my “maybe in the future one day” list along with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], in case that’s the only sort of style my future hypothetical husband will ever go for.

I didn’t used to like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] either–it reminded me too much of cilia and it seemed incomplete–but I’ve really grown to love it. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. It’s just so unexpected and dainty and pretty.

I like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]. I want to like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] because it should be right up my alley but I just can’t get into it.

I prefer [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. It’s my pup’s name and we call her [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it!

Beautiful meaning! [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] is a gorgeous name  suggestions: Lillyonna ([name_f]Lilly[/name_f]-on-ah)

[name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] for me I also love [name_f]Lilla[/name_f].
