Let's Talk About Sutton

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] is really starting to grow on me, but I definitely find it too trendy (the unisex trend, the place name/surname trend, the odd name trend) for a girl, however, I love it for a little boy. I did some digging on different name sites, and most have a mix of opinions on whether it’s best for a boy or girl, however when you add up the comments, it’s mostly Team [name_f]Pink[/name_f]. I’m not sure if I love it enough to use, or if it’s just a Guilty Pleasure name for me, so, I’d like to know what you think.

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know more boys or girls named it?
  2. Would you rather see it on a boy or a girl?
  3. Is it too weird to be used?
  4. What middle names would you use for a boy?
  5. What do you think of the combos I’ve made for a little [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]?

My Combos:

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ([name_f]Ottilie[/name_f])
[name_f]Clarinda[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]
[name_f]Eleonora[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Pamela[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Caradoc[/name_m]

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m] [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f]

A friend of mine has a boy named [name_m]Sutter[/name_m]. She said her husband picked it out after a baseball player. So that’s as close to a [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] as I know. I don’t really care for either name to be honest. The “sut” sound at the beginning is just too harsh for me.

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know more boys or girls named it? I’ve never met anyone named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] actually. I always thought it wasn’t popular or trendy.
  2. Would you rather see it on a boy or a girl? Boy all the way. I couldn’t imagine [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] on a girl.
  3. Is it too weird to be used? I don’t think so in my opinion. I have some pretty strange names on my list ([name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_f]Plum[/name_f]) so [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] seems normal to me
  4. What middle names would you use for a boy? Probably one or three syllables - [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] sounds nice to me. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] though too
  5. What do you think of the combos I’ve made for a little [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]? Those sibling sets are flawless. They all go so well together for sure. My absolute favorite being the 4th set.

I know of one child named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] - a 3 month old girl, and one of the teenagers next door assured me (when baby [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]'s name was announced) that it’s a girl’s name. Apparently, though, her only experience with the name comes via a character on television.

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know more boys or girls named it? I know no one with the name.
  2. Would you rather see it on a boy or a girl? I would prefer it on a boy.
  3. Is it too weird to be used? No. It actually feels a bit vintage to me, like [name_m]Holden[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though many feel [name_m]Holden[/name_m] is trendy. [name_m]Holden[/name_m] has been a round for quite some time.
  4. What middle names would you use for a boy? not sure
  5. What do you think of the combos I’ve made for a little [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]? My favorite combo is [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Very handsome.

1) [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know more boys or girls named it? Neither personally. There is a girl named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] on a show called The Lying Game, and I remember reacting negatively to the name because I didn’t see anything feminine about it at all.
2) Would you rather see it on a boy or a girl? Boy. Definitely. [name_m]How[/name_m] this became a girl name is very confusing to me, it sounds so masculine.
3) Is it too weird to be used? I don’t think so. Surnames are trendy right now, and depending on the combo, it could even sound classic.
4) What middle names would you use for a boy? Something timeless and masculine to counteract potential trendiness. [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], etc.
5) What do you think of the combos I’ve made for a little [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]? [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] are my favorites. Especially [name_m]George[/name_m]…I love the rugged strength of him next to [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]'s softer vibe. I love the [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] sibset, but I find the middles [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] to be less fresh than I would like…there are fresh classics and stale classics, and the ones that were super popular in my generation feel a bit dated to me now. I also adore [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] together! The double-T’s are great. My only downside with that sibset is that we couldn’t have [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] together, and I love [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] so much more  [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is my least favorite…I feel like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] reinforces the trendiness of [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] rather than downplaying it, and the combo is too unisex for my taste.

If I could pick and chose from all the names you listed rather than taking whole combos or whole sibsets, my picks would be:

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (still not my favorite, but all my favorite sounds with [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] – [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], etc. – are out because with the book they’re too fangirlish.)
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (I know, we can’t have [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] & [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]…but it’s such a fun idea!)
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (love this one as is)
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

I actually would happily name twin boys [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] & [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]

I don’t have time to write out a full-length reply right now, but there is a famous musical theatre star named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] (female). I adore her! I don’t like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] on a girl though…

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] on a girl isn’t all that good. I can see a little kid mispronouncing it as Slutton…

The only [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] I’ve heard of is [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m], as someone previously mentioned. I prefer [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] for a boy. If you feel it’s too trendy, I would go with a more classic, masculine middle name.

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Ross[/name_m]

I have two “friends” on Facebook with girl [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]'s. I also have heard [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] as a character on The Lying Game and the actress [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]. I only ever think girl with I hear it. Sorry!

The first thing I think of is famous Broadway actress [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]. The second thing I think of is mutton.

I love [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. I thought it was just a girls name until I discovered nameberry, because of the famous broadway performer, [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m].

I realize that [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] seems to fit the bill for a boy’s name, but I really like it as a girl’s name that doesn’t have to be frilly. I know two women in their mid/late twenties named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], so maybe that’s why I’m still team pink even if you did make some very nice combos with it!

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know more boys or girls named it? Girls
  2. Would you rather see it on a boy or a girl? Girls, since I know no boys with the name
  3. Is it too weird to be used? No, like you said, it’s a bit “trendy”, but at the same time it’s got a lot of roots.
  4. What middle names would you use for a boy? Something one-syllable
  5. What do you think of the combos I’ve made for a little [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]? [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m] (and his brother [name_m]Bennett[/name_m])

I love [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] on a boy! There is an actress named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] ( I forgot her last name) and when I first heard her name I thought, “Poor girl, she has a boys name.” I was shocked to hear it’s used more on girls. It sounds so masculine to me. I don’t anyone by this name, but even if I knew a female named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], I still like it better on a boy.

Middles:
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]

Its ugly and rhymes with mutton. By far better for a boy but not a name I care for. Sorry. Never met a person with the name.

I know 2 [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]’s both boys. I don’t like it for a girls name. It is very trendy. I imagine it w a sister name [name_f]Kenzlee[/name_f] and a brother names [name_u]Jayden[/name_u].
