Let's Talk Top 10

Hello, Berries!

I would be interested in hearing any thoughts on my current top ten favorite girl names (first names only) – opinions, imagery, associations, general vibes, etc. Which 2-4 would make the best sister names? And what would you call my style based on these?

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (Yes, I know it’s #1 on the charts. But what else?)
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]*
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] (a very special honor name & my all-time favorite girl name – i.e. likely to be the name of my first daughter)
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

Of course, please tell me why you like those you like and why you dislike those you dislike. I am open to any and all constructive criticism.

TIA!

*A note on [name_f]Heida[/name_f]: It recently occurred to me that most people would assume this name is pronounced HYE-duh (rhymes with [name_f]Ida[/name_f]), which would make sense considering the Germanic origin and how similar it looks to [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]. However, in Iceland (and possibly elsewhere?), it is pronounced HAY-duh (rhymes with [name_f]Ada[/name_f]), which is the pronunciation I use and prefer. (No, I am not Icelandic; I just like the name, and that pronunciation is the one I originally heard and fell in love with – via Icelandic actress [name_f]Heida[/name_f] [name_u]Reed[/name_u] – so that’s just the one I prefer to use.)

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f] -Neutral. Doesn’t wow me and I don’t dislike it but I’ve always thought of it as a plain name.
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]- I really like this one. I think of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as being spunky & sweet. I immediately think of Scooby doo but that’s not a negative association and I don’t think most people with associate this name with that.
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (Yes, I know it’s #1 on the charts. But what else?)- Dilemma is my immediate association. The nice thing about [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is that it is girly without being frilly but other than that I find it kind of plain like [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I realize popularity shouldn’t be the main factor but with a name at #1 I think it’s very different from having a name at #50 and can be confusing/tiresome.
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f]- Unlike your other choices I find this to be really religious if that’s something you care about. I like the nn Esty but this feels kind of old to me.
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]-I really like this one though personally I prefer spelling [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. I like that it feels girly and traditional and spunky simultaneously. nns [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and dolly are adorable and I think this name would age well.
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]* - I would have automatically pronounced it the way you intended but I see how many people would say HYE-duh. I prefer [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] but it is still a nice name.
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - this one is growing on me but there’s also the saying “plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f]” if that bothers you. I like it as a middle though
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] -This is my favorite name on your list. I think it is so pretty! ( it would probably get confused with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sometimes but I don’t think it’s a big deal.) I really like the combo [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] -I like this one but I prefer other [name_u]Lou[/name_u] names like [name_u]Louise[/name_u]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. Also a common dog name if that others you at all.
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I love this one because it is classic, girly and sweet without being over the top.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites on your list are [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Great list! Here are my thoughts:

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f]-This is so pretty . It’s elegant yet sweet & calm. It’s super simple, yet not too terribly over done.

  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]-This is cute. A little too cutesy in my opinion, but I still like it.

  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (Yes, I know it’s #1 on the charts. But what else?)-Well, it’s still really sweet. It’s a good combination of of softness & spunk.

  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f]-This is nice. I think I like the idea of it more than the actual sound. It’s smart & has substance if that makes sense. I think the nns [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Essie[/name_f] are fun if you like those.

  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]-Hooray, I love this spelling! Not sure why, but it looks so much more sophisticated than [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f].

  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]*-I don’t care much for this one. It sounds a bit frumpy.

  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f]-This is nice enough. Obviously a little boring, but a good enough name.

  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] (a very special honor name & my all-time favorite girl name – i.e. likely to be the name of my first daughter)-I love it. I’m 36, & it’s been on my top…oh, top seven list since I was twelve. It was #1 for a long long time. It was the name of my favorite gymnast from the 96’ Olympics when I was way into gymnastics. So, it’s special to me too I guess. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom loved watching the gymnastics with me, & she named her kitty this about twelve years ago. So, we have one in the family.

  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-This is sweet. It has old fashioned charm, and a cheerful lovable feeling.

  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-[name_m]Just[/name_m] lovely. Sophisticated & elegant. And the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is sweet & friendly.

For sisters I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Emma[/name_f]…I suppose [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is my favorite from your list. I think maybe it goes w/[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]?

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f]- Really like this one, although I wouldn’t use it myself. It’s classic, pretty, sophisticated and strong, reminds me of [name_f]Clara[/name_f] from [name_u]Doctor[/name_u] Who who is strong, fearless, loyal- so not a bad association!
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]- like the previous poster, definetely reminds me of scooby doo, but again, not a bad association at all and I don’t think most people would go to this, I grew up watching scooby doo so its the first thing that comes to mind. I’m not a fan personally, it seems a little dated to me, but thats probably because I only know older Daphnes. It’s a very pretty name
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f]- I really like this one, its not so popular in the UK, which I think makes it more usable over here. Really pretty, short, sweet and spunky. I only know great [name_f]Emma[/name_f]’s no negative associations for me.
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f]- I have an aunt with this name, also reminds me of the film Orphan (but thats quite a niche association- definetely negative though!). I would use this, although it would seem quite old-fashioned in the UK, not sure about the US. I can imagine a curly haired, strong little girl called [name_f]Esther[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]- really not a fan sorry, is very old-fashioned to me and reminds me of a mean girl from books I used to read as a kid.
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]- like this one, could pronounce it either way personally, but I like the Icelandic connection. Never seen it used.
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f]- really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], short and sweet, reminds me of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] from Rizzoli and Isles and the [name_f]Tess[/name_f] Gerritsen books, really strong character. Would definetely use this one. I like it as a middle too.
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]- very pretty name, although not something I’d use myself. Classic, sweet and girly. Would probably get confused with the [name_f]Lily[/name_f] crowd though if thats something that bothers you.
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]- this is my number one girls name! Really pretty, sweet and girly, but strong and spunky too. I associate this name with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Pevensie[/name_u] from the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] books.
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- really like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], again classic, sweet, but also strong. Really like [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] too.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite 4 are: [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I’d say your style is classic, feminine, but with a couple of oddballs thrown in ([name_f]Heida[/name_f]!)

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - love! Very classic, sweet, and I LOVE [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Barton[/name_m]!!
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - soft sound, purple, fun! I know a wonderful [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - no matter that it’s #1, that’s not really important  I think it’s charming and fun, playful, and cheery. Also it can be soft and subdued.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - I don’t feel this is really my style, but DON"T LET THAT STOP YOU FROM USING IT!! It is somehow connected with lilies and dawn colors for me.
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - I think it’s superb! The hard g matches so beautifully with the dol sound. All the nicknames([name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Olli[/name_f]) are super fun.
[name_f]Heida[/name_f] - Terrific! I think this is a brilliant variation of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], it makes me think of ice and northern lights.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] - This name doesn’t dazzle at first sight, but don’t underestimate her, [name_f]Jane[/name_f]’s beauty sneaks up on you quietly and suddenly you’re stunned by its quiet magnificence!
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f](sorry, pun intended)! It feels chanrming, vintage, light (yes it does mean light/glowing that was another pun I’m sorry) and i adore it!
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - simple but ravishing!

I really like your list! Here are some quick thoughts;

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - love! I have [name_f]Claire[/name_f] on my own list, but I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as well, it’s beautiful.
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], but I can appreciate its beauty! It’s just never been for me!
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Emma[/name_f]! I work with children and haven’t met one under 12 personally. It’s so classically beautiful.
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f] - Hmm, I’ve never really thought about [name_f]Esther[/name_f], but it could grow on me?
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - This is a lot like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] for me, but it’s still a lovely pick.
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]* - Ooh, this is a new one for me! I really like it, especially with your pronunciation (Hay-dah sounds lovely!).
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - Oh I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I know the sweetest little one named this. I’ve actually contemplated adding [name_f]Jane[/name_f] to my own list as a first name.
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is stunning, I really hope you do get to use this for a daughter! I love it!
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - Beautiful, I’m a little tired of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] because I do hear this one a bit more often, but it’s popular for a reason!
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I do prefer more elaborate [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- names, but you truly can’t go wrong with the original!

For sisters, they all work really nicely together, imo, but I particularly like these;

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] & [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Heida[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]

I’d say your style is a bit more Victorian, to be honest! All of these (spare [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Heida[/name_f], but they give me the same vibe!) have appeared on lists I’ve seen from that time period! They have a very classy, delicate, elegant quality about them, imo!

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - simple and sweet. That’s about all I can think to say about it, but there’s nothing negative that comes to mind. An absolute classic.

  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - love! Always loved it, even though I’m constantly trying to create a nickname within it (it’s an Aussie habit, and I apologize). Undeniable amount of personality in this one, in my opinion.

  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - let me be honest: it’s always felt ‘meh’ to me. Maybe because there are so many Emmas and none of the ones I know stand out from the crowd. Emmas of the world, please prove me wrong!

  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f] - I like it, but it does have a bit of an “old lady” flair about it. Maybe all the more reason to use it and inject some new life.

  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - sophisticated, strong. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. Quite a departure from the other short and sweets on your list.

  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f] - I would have gone to the [name_f]Hye[/name_f]-da pronunciation, which I quite like. [name_f]Heida[/name_f] as it’s meant to be pronounced is also quite lovely, but I wouldn’t want to constantly correct people.

  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - I suppose there’s a reason why the phrase is “Plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f],” but I still like it. Like there are surprises to be had with [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - what’s not to love? While it’s not on my list, it’s your number one. Enough said. There’s no denying it’s beauty.

  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I love [name_u]Lou[/name_u] names. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is quite cheeky and fun, like all of the Lucys I’ve known.

  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - simple, traditional, beautiful. And my husband’s favourite, as he’s so quick to tell me every time this name comes up!

I’d agree with calling your style Classic and Feminine. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister set would be [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - Recently I started to really like [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name.
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - I like this name! It has a connection to both nature and mythology.
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I’ve always loved this name. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] simply sounds amazing.
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f] - Nice name.
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - This is the only name from your list that I don’t really like. It’s just that I personally don’t really like the sound of ‘[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]’, but in general [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is a great name.
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f] - At first this indeed reminded me of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]. [name_f]Heida[/name_f] with the Icelandic pronuncation is really cool though!
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] because to me it somehow feels both classic and modern.
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - Amazing name!
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is such a pretty name but without being long and frilly.
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is one of my favourite names. I love flower names.

I’d call your style classic.
Actually, I think all combinations here would work well for sisters.

Thank you for the feedback so far! I so enjoyed reading each and every one of your replies, and I am pleased to see such positive reactions to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] (my favorite) and [name_f]Heida[/name_f] (my oddball).

@em.estelle
I rather like the religious connection with [name_f]Esther[/name_f], being that she was a heroic queen and all. However, the heroine that actually made me fall in love with the name was in a [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Dickens novel (Bleak House).
I do think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] could easily be confused with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. But I’ve lived my whole life with a name that often gets confused for similar sounding names, so I’ve come to be less concerned about it. (Though I think I could only do that with a name I really loved because it can be frustrating.) [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sounds so lovely!

@MichelleM
Oh, I’m so pleased someone else agrees with me on the spelling of [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]! I’m not sure why either, but it is just as you said.
As for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], I love the gymnast association, too! [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is further down my list for that reason. ([name_f]Nadia[/name_f] Comaneci was always my favorite, even though she was before my time, but [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] Podkopayeva is also fantastic!)

@with_the_monster
I’ve not watched Dr. Who – but I know a lot of people are fans, so actually quite I’m pleased to discover it’s a positive association for [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
Yeah, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] does remind me of Scooby Doo, too. Thankfully, it’s not as popular anymore or it might have bothered me a little bit, despite loving the name.
Aaw, yes! I like the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] association for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], too. Those were favorite books of mine as a kid.

@EJpuddlejumper
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], yes, I hadn’t thought of [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Barton[/name_m] – what a great association for the name!
I agree with you on [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! That’s the perfect way to put it. :ok_hand:t3:
Oh, I do love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], too!

@leafsgirl44
Thank you!
I love all the sister combos you came up with! (I have often thought of [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] together, too, so I particularly like that you listed that one.)
Also, I think you’ve hit upon precisely the description for my style. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but it is quite Victorian. (Hmm…perhaps that’s due to my influences which are primarily 19th century novels and British drama series.)

@Hollyrow
Hmm…I don’t think I know any nicknames for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] – maybe Daph? I definitely agree with you on the personality she possesses!
Yes, [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is rather old-fashioned, I suppose. But I think it’s so sweet and vintage, so I do hope to give it new life if I ever use it.
I had noticed that [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is a little lengthy compared to the rest of my list. It would give me pause as a potential sister name for more than one of them, tbh.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful. I think it might be second only to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] for me at this point!

@Johannaa
Yes! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]’s connections to nature and mythology are a huge part of her appeal.
So glad to see a fellow fan of [name_f]Emma[/name_f], despite her popularity! And I understand the distaste for [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] – not for everyone, I suppose. (I myself am not a fan of just [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and prefer [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] in full.)
I agree: [name_f]Jane[/name_f] does feel both classic and modern. That’s possibly why I like her so much. She feels wearable in any century on any age.

Thanks again, Berries!

Anyone else care to weigh in?

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - Cute, pretty and unique
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - Beautiful and exotic
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I do quite like this (particularly because of the [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] novel) but the popularity makes it seem a little unoriginal
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - Very homely and sweet
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - I prefer the [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] spelling, but this one’s nice enough. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]!
[name_f]Heida[/name_f] - Unusual and pretty, although I think prn. would be an issue
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] - Traditional and bookish, ready for a revival
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - So fresh and beautiful, lovely sound
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - Classic and timeless
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - Elegant and sweet

Instead of doing specific sibsets, I’ve grouped them by style (I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] could go either way):
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Heida[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f]

As for your style, it’s a mix of classic and vintage with the occasional unique twist.

@elanorelle, I love that you know who [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] Podkopayeva is. She’s a bit more under the radar than [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. Although I love her & her name too. :grinning:

  • [name_f]Clara[/name_f]: a decent, solid name, although personally I prefer the simpler [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]: cute, bubbly, fun name. I like it.
  • [name_f]Emma[/name_f]: decent name, it seems a little bland to me especially compared to the imo prettier [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Esther[/name_f]: love [name_f]Esther[/name_f], a strong and charming name with a wonderful Biblical namesake.
  • [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]: love this one! It feels like a fairytale princess but also has a strength and sturdiness to it, and the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is adorable and fun.
  • [name_f]Heida[/name_f]: intriguing, but I haven’t heard it before so I’m still sort of processing whether I like it or not.
  • [name_f]Jane[/name_f]: lovely, simple, strong name with lots of history.
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]: I’m not familiar with this one either but it’s very pretty and melodic, and it sounds very important to you.
  • [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]: a nice, pretty name but doesn’t have as much wow factor to me as some of your other choices.
  • [name_f]Rose[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! It’s such a stunning yet simple choice with beautiful imagery and sound.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorites from your list: [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

Since it sounds like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is your front runner, the names I think would go best as a sister to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] are [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Heida[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Names I don’t think would go as well are [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (sounds too similar), [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]), and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (too different in terms of style, I think).

Overall I would describe your style as vintage, with a combination of classics and more offbeat/eclectic choices.

I like all the words you ascribed to each name and so many of your cute sister ideas! Thank you.

I like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] because of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], too – it’s my favorite of hers. But it certainly could be perceived as a little unoriginal compared to most of my others because it is that popular.
Definitely love your style groupings! I’m not looking to have children for at least four years or so yet, but it is helpful to get a good idea of names that go well together.

@findemaxa13
I do think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is pretty, too, but it is ridiculously common (far more than [name_f]Emma[/name_f], if you can believe it!), which makes it feel less sparkling to me. Although, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is so common among my own generation; [name_f]Emma[/name_f] could be that for girls today, I just don’t see it yet.
I agree with your sister pairings for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]: [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is too similar and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is rather different stylistically.
Thanks for the input!

Thanks again to all of you!

:grapes: :open_umbrella: clara :purple_heart::crystal_ball:

this name is a little stiff for me and seems a little outdated but it does carry lots of vintage charm which seems to be your style to a certain extent. i can tell that you like vintage names (i.e. esther and jane) as well as simpler modern ones (emma and lucy) i associate this name with the color purple

:sun_with_face: :fire: daphne :orange_heart: :key:

this name is so gorgeous, it’s not my personal style but i feel as though it’s just the right amount ‘out there’ for your taste. definitely a happy balance of exciting and classic. this is a name you don’t encounter enough and definitely makes an impression in the most positive way. daphne is poised but also spunky, flirty but also intense. she’s a badass but intelligent as well. all around a total powerhouse. i associate this name with the color orange.

:t_rex: :honeybee: emma :butterfly: :tropical_fish:

this is a classic. i know that you aren’t looking for middle names but emma would be just gorgeous with a longer vintage name like gwendolen. you can’t go wrong with emma. she’s sporty, sweet and endless fun and excitement. with a constant smile on her face, she loves adventures. for me this name is associated with lightish greens, blues and a little yellow.

:dove: :thought_balloon: esther :closed_umbrella: :white_heart:

i was definitely surprised as to how much i like this name. it seems a little out dated at first but it’s really growing on me. i love it. it’s mature but also would fit a baby or young girl. the nickname essie really lightens it up for me and it’s definitely being added to my list right now! this name is associated with grey and lilac colors for me.

:ribbon: :jigsaw: gwendolen :sun_with_face: :globe_with_meridians:

first off, your spelling of the name is magical. would you call her gwen? in my opinion, the nickname has the potential to take away from the sparkle of the name. i also like linney as a nn. this is all around perfect and it’s the perfect mix of your modern, simple and vintage tastes. i think if i had to pick one name that defines your style, this would be it. this name has lot’s of colors and frankly i’m in love

:boom: :beetle: heida :fire: :high_heel:

i’ve never seen this name before but i really like it. the spelling may be a little confusing but i like that it’s the name of an actress and has ties to a culture you’re interested in. if the spelling isn’t super important, maybe write it like hayda or haida to ensure correct pronunciation? either way, it’s super unique but not to ‘out there’. i associate this with red and scarlet orange

:sunflower: :blue_heart: jane :honey_pot: :butterfly:

this name is a little hard like it’s very strong. i personally prefer the spelling jaine as it seems to soften it for me. it’s simple and has lots of historical connotations (jane austen, jane russell, jane goodall, what ever you’re in to) it may be a little plain for my taste but you could always pair it with a more exciting middle name. i associate it with yellow/gold and blue

:dove: :crystal_ball: lilia :atom_symbol: :angel:t3:

it seems like you really love this name and i do to so i think that this is honestly a perfect first-child-name for you. honestly perfect all around and your enthusiasm about it makes it even better. lilia is a kind, outgoing, sweet and adventurous soul. i definitely associate this with lavender too

:cherries: :sauropod: lucy :ocean: :hearts:

i like lucy. it isn’t the most exciting in my opinion but it’s definitely sweet. i associate it with red and dark blue

:cherry_blossom: :wedding: rose :shopping: :watermelon:

the imagery produced by this name is astounding. it’s simple but also has layers. it works with pretty much any mn and fits anyone of any age. you can’t go wrong in really any way with rose. and obviously, i associate this with pink

i love all the names you have here. some combos are:
lilia & gwendolen
lilia & daphne
lilia & esther
lilia & rose
esther & rose
rose & daphne
rose & gwendolen
heida & gwendolen
heida & rose

I 100% agree with your assessment of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and I’m glad to see some more love for [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f], too. :relaxed:
I don’t think I’d use a nickname for [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] – I love it so much in full! And, you’re right, a nickname would kind of diminish her sparkle.
Loving the sister pairs – particularly [name_f]Heida[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] together.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The color associations are fabulous.

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is one of those names that are beautiful in their simplicity. It has so much going on for it! It’s a beautiful classic but quite unique, and I personally love the [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] association.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - Subtle and sweet nature name with a vintage, english vibe. What’s not to love?
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I do like the sound, but honestly it just doesn’t sound special to me anymore. I’d be like “oh, okay, another [name_f]Emma[/name_f],” if I thought one. There aren’t many nickname options to make it feel more “unique” either, just [name_f]Em[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmy[/name_f] which are pretty common.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is very underappreciated. It’s a sweet, solid, no-frills classic.
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] - I LOVE [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]. This spelling especially. It’s so sweet and straight out of a fairy tale, but still usable and just down to earth enough. And the nicknames are to die for!
[name_f]Heida[/name_f] - Now that you specified the pronunciation, I love it! It has [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]'s sweetness, but with a unique twist, and the Nordic vibe is always cool.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] - [name_f]Jane[/name_f] makes for a lovely first name! Not plain at all, but pretty, underused as a first name nowadays, and with lovely literary connections
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - This used to be my nickname when I was a kid! I think it’s cute, and it has a fun and cheerful sound.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I’m not too crazy about [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. It just sounds like it’s missing something to me. And I know many girls with the name, so it’s lost its sparkle.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - Like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name! There’s something elegant and dark about it, even when it’s just one syllable. That said I do prefer [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f].

Some sibsets: [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Heida[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Your comments on [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] reflect my thoughts exactly, and I love that you also like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as first names.
[name_m]How[/name_m] cute that [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] was your nn! I absolutely love it. :relaxed:

[name_f]Clara[/name_f]- so sweet! I’ve always had a sweet spot for this name! Gives me major Nutcracker vibes! The only reason I wouldn’t use it is due to pronunciation issues. (Clar-a vs [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-a)

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]- it’s not my favorite. I think it may just be the Scooby-Doo association that’s bothering me.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]- LOVE. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is my second choice for a girl (only second to [name_f]Rose[/name_f], though they flip back and forth between #1 and #2). Sometimes I try to shake it from my list, but nothing can replace the sweet simplicity of [name_f]Emma[/name_f].

[name_f]Esther[/name_f]- absolutely lovely. One of my favorites that never managed it’s way onto my list!

[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]- I really like this spelling! [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is such a great nn!

[name_f]Heida[/name_f]- such a unique twist on [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! It’s growing on me!

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]- oh, sweet and simple [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. What a lovely, underused classic!

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]- I’m so glad you have a name that is so special to you! It’s really beautiful!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]- I never used to like this one for some reason, and I’ve just started warming up to the idea of a little [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]- #1 girl name for me! I wish it wasn’t so popular as a middle, because it’s so fresh and lovely as a first! [name_m]Just[/name_m] perfect.

I love the Nutcracker association for [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. And, honestly, I’m not too concerned about pronunciation issues. (Typically, in the US it’s [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-uh and elsewhere it’s Clahr-uh. I use the former, but if a foreigner used the latter it wouldn’t bug me a bit.)
Yay! Another [name_f]Emma[/name_f] fan!
Thanks for all your thoughts! We seem to have a lot of favorites in common!
