Our last name starts with O. I have always been a bit iffy of choosing names that spell bad initials (ie. POO), but I am wondering what opinions the berries have on the first and last names. For example: B_O, F_O, H_O, P_O. We named our first son HKO knowing his first/last initials would be HO and it didn’t both us, but I would have been more reluctant if it had been our daughter (Particularly because we didn’t give her a middle name, and don’t plan on giving them to future daughters either). What do you all think, am I being oversensitive or does it really not matter?
Honestly I think the importance of initials is seriously overplayed. As long as your kid’s initials don’t spell a swear or a slur, you’re fine.
[name]How[/name] often are initials actually used? I work at a preschool and we always write the full first name and the last name initial, but only if someone else shares the same name.
I think it would be terribly different if the initials were h.o.e for example. Kids at school would see h.o and probably think if [name]Santa[/name] [name]Claus[/name].
Although I’m glad to see that you check first, just to be on the safe side. If my parents gave me a middle starting with A, my initials would have been g.a.s lol
My last initial is S. so I’ve thrown a couple names away for P.M.S and A.S.S.
Initials do show up–in monograms, automatically created work email addresses, “initial here” on contracts.Neutral words are fine, but j like to avoid anything overridingly negative
I do pay attention to letterplay (both between first, middle, and last and between just first and last names) when forming combos. I just don’t want my children’s initials or monograms to be embarrassing, negative, or ugly.
I sign my initials no less than fifty times a day so I am particularly careful about what my children’s names could spell. I remember in first grade thinking it was cool if your initials spelled something like [name]CAT[/name] but I didn’t realize how bad it could be until I was engaged and realized my initials were going to be SOB. Yeah. That would have been a blast!
I don’t think you need to worry about it too much. Of course stay away from P.O.O. and other unpleasant initials , but if they spell something like GOO I think it’s fine.
As the mother of VIP & GQ… I think they are definitely thought-worthy. I avoided PP, NIP, etc
