Are there any letters that usually make you automatically dislike a name or have a prejudice against the name (makes it feel silly, made up, etc.)?
For me, I generally dislike names beginning with K with few exceptions (I like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and it’s varients particularly [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], Japanese name like [name_f]Kyoko[/name_f], [name_f]Kismet[/name_f], [name_u]Krishna[/name_u], [name_m]Keifer[/name_m], [name_m]Kellen[/name_m]/[name_m]Kellan[/name_m], [name_u]Kieran[/name_u]/[name_m]Kiernan[/name_m], and [name_m]Kipling[/name_m])
K and hard C names, but only for boys. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_m]Karl[/name_m], [name_m]Kurt[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] etc… For some reason it doesn’t bother me with girls name lol.
I don’t really like names that start with P. The only one I kind of like and would possibly use is [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], but that is because it would honor my mom. It would also only be a middle name. I really can’t think of another P name that I like.
I too dislike “K” names, and actually can’t think of a single one I do like ([name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is not bad, but is ages beneath [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]). I also really dislike “W” names. The only one I can think of that I tolerate is [name_f]Wendy[/name_f].
I hate P, U and B for both genders. No exceptions.
I hate O, H, and F for girls. With the exception of [name_u]Haven[/name_u] and [name_f]Ondine[/name_f].
And I hate A, X and Y for boys. With the exceptions of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m].
I’m a K hater too because so often the K is a parents attempt at being “unique” i.e. [name_f]Kandace[/name_f] or [name_u]Kamden[/name_u]. The exceptions are Hawaiian/Arabic/[name_m]German[/name_m]/etc names that are supposed to start with K. If a C can be used, I prefer the C spelling ([name_m]Conrad[/name_m] vs [name_m]Konrad[/name_m]). Some of my favorite K names are [name_u]Kendal[/name_u] (boy), [name_f]Kismet[/name_f], [name_m]Khalil[/name_m], Kolohe, and [name_m]Keir[/name_m]
Ironically I don’t like names that start with the letter K either, and I’m a [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f]. Go figure. It’s just such a harsh, sharp looking and sounding letter, and I like things that sound a little softer.
I don’t like the letter Q, X, G, or Z. I also am not a big fan of the letters F or E just because of how they look written. I tend to lean toward letters that can be written in one stroke, like B, S, L, O… just a weird personal preference but I often think about how names look in my own personal handwriting when I’m picking my favorites.
I dislike the letter B for both genders, the only name I like is [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (which, even though I love it, is too popular near me for use). I dislike the letter D for girls, with the exception of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] (which is the last name on my list). I like it for boys, but not much, only with [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m], [name_m]Demetrius[/name_m], & [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]. I generally don’t like K names for either gender. F for girls and H for both are disliked too. I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but that is about it. And forget Q, U, & Y. Those letters are impossible (though I do have a soft spot for nerdy [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]).
Most of the other letters I’m good with. I have so many names I like that start with A or J.
I like a lot of the less-loved letters: K is fine as long as the name is legit. X, Q, Y - some of my favourite names! [name_m]Way[/name_m] too many Z names are wonderful, my only problem would be narrowing the field!
H, P, B, F, T - these are the ones that are hard. Especially a hard p sound, I have more ph- names than either F’s or hard P’s.
O has one name for each gender - [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. That’s it.
Some letters are easier one gender than the other. V and T are easier for girls, though T is still pretty limited. U and J are easier for boys.
I don’t have any specific letters I don’t like, but I do have letters where I have no names listed. I have a huge list so I guess I’m not attracted to those letters.
“F” names and “N” names, in general! I dislike a good many of them, although I do like a few for each letter ([name_m]Finnian[/name_m], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]), and love even less of them ([name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_u]Florian[/name_u]). I used to think that I disliked “F” names because I was deathly afraid of getting "F"s in elementary school, haha! It wasn’t that I was a bad student–I was an A/B average student until high school, when I generally got straight As–and my parents made sure I knew that as long as I did my best, that’s all they expected, but I remember being terrified of getting an “F”, haha. But I don’t have the same reasoning for “N” names, so I don’t know how legitimate that is… I think it’s more the colors of the names themselves. I think I might have a form of synesthesia, because I see colors for most letters/names, if not all, and even patterns for some. I’m not a huge fan of red or orange colors–they seem so harsh and sort of evil to me, and most “F” names are orange, and “N” names are red, so I suppose that explains it.
I don’t have any favourites that start with D for either sex. I don’t mind [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f], but that’s about it… there are none that I love.
No K names either. I like [name_f]Kendra[/name_f] but in a “I would never use it” kind of way.
I also don’t have any Q or X names on my list.
I wouldn’t necessarily say I don’t like these letters, or the sounds of these letters, but I don’t have any names on my long list that begin with the aforementioned letters.
I have to say, though, I really don’t the sound of B in the middle of a name, or the “oob” sound.
I really dislike K names too. Especially when it’s a name that’s usually spelled with a C, even more so if it’s a boy’s name. But I don’t even like K names when they’re meant to start with a K, [name_m]Kenny[/name_m], [name_m]Kurt[/name_m], [name_m]Keith[/name_m]. Ick. I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. The only K names I like are [name_u]Kyle[/name_u], [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] (maybe because my dad’s name is [name_u]Kyle[/name_u]?), and [name_f]Kayla[/name_f]. There are probably a few other exceptions, but those are the main ones.
