Lettie as nn for Scarlett?

Is “Lettie” as a shortened name for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] too much of reach?

We just found out we are expecting number 2 (yay!) and don’t know gender yet. But before we knew it was a boy the first time around, my husband liked [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I also like it, but it was too popular for my taste. I do tend to have a lot of names like [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], on my girl shortlist. So i thought maybe formal name [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] but calling her [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] might be a compromise? IF it is a girl. :joy:

I can see your train of thought. But I wouldn’t choose [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] without understanding that Scar will likely be a common default nn. Additionally, don’t pick [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] unless you’re ok with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] just being [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] because you aren’t guaranteed that she’ll want to be called [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. She might just want to be called [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

I think it totally works!

I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]! Not stretchy at all. I think it’s both are very cute.

[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] would be my first thought for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] nn. It works perfectly! I have a friend whose daughter is [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] which I find a stretch (thought a really nice one, I’d have just used Charlotte).

Oh, it’s gorgeous! Not a reach at all, at least no more a reach than [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is as a nickname for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I adore [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. So so brilliant, and a fabulous way to incorporate your sweet nickname style in a punchy, vivacious spice of a name.

It definitely works! I think it’s lovely!

Makes sense to me - if you’d asked for suggestions for Scarlett’s nickname, [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] would have been one of my suggestions

[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is my favorite nn for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]! Not a reach at all - “lett” is right there in the name! No more unusual than a [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] being [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] or an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] being [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] imo. Lettie’s a nice name! I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would be more of a stretch for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], but even that isn’t out of the question imo - [name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is on my own list

Oh I love this! I had never thought about [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] but it makes perfect sense!!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it!! [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is beautiful and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is such a cute nick name.

I think it works well as a nickname. I would probably assume that the full name was [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is actually more similar

[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is so cute and a fitting nickname! I love the lightness of Lettie–it’s sweet and dainty! Makes me think of lace and pastel colors and tulips

This totally works for me!
