Lettie or Betty?

Which nickname do you prefer?

Lettie would be for [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] would be for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I love both but think they’re too close for hypothetical future daughters.

I’ve also considered [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknames, should I drop the favorite and go for one of the other nns I like?

I want to give one of my future daughters my name, so [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is going to be involved in some way, but I don’t want the nickname to eliminate other names I love.

Both are so lovely, but I think because you have other nicknames you love for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and not for [name_f]Violet[/name_f], I voted [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]

These are both lovely! I am related to two [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’s, and they go by [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. I also love the name [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] works great with [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. Or if you want to use [name_f]Betty[/name_f], you could use a different [name_f]Violet[/name_f] nickname like [name_f]Viva[/name_f], [name_u]Vida[/name_u]/Vita, or leave [name_f]Violet[/name_f] on its own (I don’t think it needs a nickname). Lots of options here, and I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be a wonderful sib set.

Oh, and I voted [name_f]Betty[/name_f], simply because [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is nms, but neither is a bad option.

I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] !

Love both, but my own style prefers the slightly bolder [name_f]Betty[/name_f]

[name_u]Love[/name_u] both so much! I have [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] on my list. As a full name, I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I’m not to keen on [name_f]Betty[/name_f], which is why I picked [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] for [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. So cute!!

What [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknames do you like? I go by [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] so that, [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], and [name_f]Busy[/name_f] are all off the table when I’m considering nns.

Violet and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are beautiful together. Are you sure they both need nicknames? I find the nicknames a bit cutsie and I think would fade with age.

I do like [name_f]Betty[/name_f] though and wish I heard it more often but just not sure it will stick.

I like [name_f]Letty[/name_f] as well. I have a friend with the name but her real name [name_f]Leticia[/name_f].

I find [name_f]Violet[/name_f] just so pretty that I feel nicknames for it are kind of a shame! But [name_f]Letty[/name_f] is cute but again not sure it will last when she is older.

Betty is not my style and feels to old or me. [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] feels cute and fresher.

I think that a nickname is usually called for in three syllable names and is a necessity for names with 4+ syllables. There’s always the option to go by a full name, but a shortened version (or several) is nice to have.

I’m not worried about names sticking. A kid’s name is whatever they’re called, and people typically use whatever the parents do.

I voted to keep [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] because [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has a TON of nicknames - [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Bitsy[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f]…

I just think nicknames get outgrown so I wouldn’t base decisions on them necessarily. I know a lot of Elizabeths who don’t use any nicknames. Or a lot of people may just default to [name_f]Liz[/name_f] no matter what parents call her :woman_shrugging:

That said as I mentioned I really like [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. If i named my daughter [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I would want that nickname too! And [name_f]Letty[/name_f] for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is also nice. But there are tons of nickname options for either of these so I was just saying you don’t necessarily have to give up a name!

I’ve actually never met an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who didn’t use a nickname. Maybe that’s just me, but I can’t think of any full on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]’s.

The only time I went by [name_f]Liz[/name_f] was when I was in middle school and thought I was much too cool and mature to be called [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]. Now I work in a hospital and mainly respond to Lizard. Life’s weird.:lizard:

I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and think it’s adorable for a nickname for [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
But my heart is with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for you.

I’ve been dying for [name_f]Betty[/name_f] to make a comeback! [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is absolutely adorable as well, and I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I’m partial to [name_f]Betty[/name_f].
