I like both but if you want Loo-is and like both spellings, [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] would be my choice as there will be no pronunciation issues and if you like the nickname Lewie (lou-ee) and call him that from time to time, people would not be confused about the full name.
I do think it’s very handsome and I love the literary ties (C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] and [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_u]Carroll[/name_u]); I especially like it as a brother to and paired with classic names while I think [name_m]Louis[/name_m] suits more modern or exotic names best (e.g. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] & [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] & [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] but [name_m]Louis[/name_m] & [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m] & [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_m]Louis[/name_m] & [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]).

If you’re pronouncing it Loo-is, I’d recommend spelling it [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is all [name_m]French[/name_m] (loo-ee) to me.

For your prn I would use [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. I do prefer the look of [name_m]Louis[/name_m].

Yes, [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] for the pronunciation you prefer.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback and now I am wondering if I really do like that prn and not the prn lou-ee…

I definitely prefer the [name_m]Louis[/name_m] spelling - I think it looks so much better, but you would have to be prepared to correct ‘Loo-ee’ quite a lot

@xmintiex
If you like both pronunciations, you could always go for [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Lewie[/name_m]; with [name_m]Louis[/name_m] you’d have to stick to one as to not confuse people. But do you have a favourite spelling?

I would go with the [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] spelling. I have heard [name_m]Louis[/name_m] pronounced loo-EE and LOO-is. I think [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is more straight forward for the pronunciation you want.

I might do that!
I love both. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] feels less surnamey and feels like it has more character and history but then I would have to correct the pronunciation. I might ask my friends and family to see how they would say it.
Thank you so very much!

I would definitely use [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] if you’re pronouncing it [name_m]LEW[/name_m]-is.

[name_m]Louis[/name_m] is technically “loo-ee”, not “loo-iss”. I much prefer [name_m]Louis[/name_m] - I find it more attractive to look at and sounds much nicer. However, if you want the "loo-iss"pronunciation then definitely go with [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

The pronunciation of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is [name_m]Louie[/name_m].
The pronunciation of [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-is, so [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] gets my vote.

I definitely prefer the look of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as well, but with the pronunciation (which is the one I’d want too) I’d go with [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] to avoid any confusion.

I prefer the look of [name_m]Louis[/name_m], but I have [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] on my list for the pronunciation.

I think this is totally me!

I’ve never met a single soul who pronounces [name_m]Louis[/name_m] the ‘correct way’ (AKA the [name_m]French[/name_m] way - Loo-ee). I think you’d be completely fine spelling it [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and expecting that people pronounce it Loo-is (even though Loo-ee may be the ‘correct way’).
The [name_m]Louis[/name_m] spelling is so much better looking and I think the vast majority would pronounce it Loo-iss (unless they’re a name nerd like many of us on nameberry  and most people are not).

I prefer the look of [name_m]Louis[/name_m] but I would pronounce it Loo-ee so can understand the thought behind using [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] to get the correct pronounciation, however I have met a few [name_m]Louis[/name_m]’ who pronounce it as Loo-is so I think it is just up to your personal preference and to be honest you can’t go wrong with either spelling.

To me this doesn’t even make sense. They are two different names. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is [name_m]LEW[/name_m]-is and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is [name_m]LEW[/name_m]-ee.

Thank you

@gpu I understand how you feel, I used to be the same way but non-namers feel they are the same name. I switch constantly on how I feel… like today I like [name_m]Louis[/name_m] prn - [name_m]Lew[/name_m]-ee and I want to use it that way.
