Lia, Leah or Lea

[name_f]Lea[/name_f] (spelled this way) is a family name. It’s the name of my grandmother, my late aunt and it’s my mom’s mn.

It is our #1 name if our child due the 22nd turns out to be a girl paired with the mn [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. But we are wondering about the spelling.

We get that [name_f]Lea[/name_f] will look a bit odd to some, and people will naturally add a h to the end. But DH says [name_f]Leah[/name_f] looks a bit too uptight to him. So we also considered the spelling [name_f]Lia[/name_f], which we also like, but might come across too nicknamey.

Which of the spelling would you choose?

[name_f]Lea[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Lia[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

[name_f]Leah[/name_f], it is the most complete looking as a full name. The others look more like nicknames than full names. It’s definitely not uptight, but it does grow up better.

[name_f]Leah[/name_f], it’s one of my favourite girl names. It looks complete and full, like anaxandra said.

Since the [name_f]Lea[/name_f] spelling is used in your family, I’d go with that.

[name_f]Lea[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is gorgeous. Congratulations!

[name_f]Lia[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] would be my pick.

When I see [name_f]Lea[/name_f] written on a page, I want to pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u] though I know in my head it’s wrong. Especially as a first, I think [name_f]Leah[/name_f] works best.

I feel the same as the previous poster.
If you both like the spelling [name_f]Lea[/name_f] and it has a special meaning for you, you should go with it

Otherwise, I too like [name_f]Leah[/name_f] a little more.

I love [name_f]Leah[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Lea[/name_f]. It’s my favorite spelling, followed by [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. And if [name_f]Lea[/name_f] is the family spelling that’s what I would go with

I like [name_f]Lea[/name_f] or [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I would probably stick with the [name_f]Lea[/name_f] soelling used in your family if I was you. [name_f]Lea[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is a pretty name!

I’d go for [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
[name_f]Lia[/name_f] is super pretty but I think a lot of people would naturally pronounce it Lye-a, it’s a very sweet and fresh name though and much rarer than [name_f]Leah[/name_f].
[name_f]Lea[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] looks a bit like a jumble of E’s, and some people would inevitably mispronounce [name_f]Lea[/name_f] as [name_u]Lee[/name_u].

Well, it depends which pronunciation you’d like. [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is solely “lee-uh,” and does come off as a nickname to me ([name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], etc.) The others can be pronounced the same way, but also as “lay-uh.” I know one girl, [name_m]French[/name_m], named [name_f]Lea[/name_f] (Lèa, actually) pronounced lay-uh. With [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I know one of each. I’d go with either [name_f]Lea[/name_f] or [name_f]Leah[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal preference is [name_f]Lia[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

I say [name_f]Leah[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Erinn[/name_f]. Going through life never being an [name_f]Erin[/name_f] has been grueling.

I love my name, but it gets me so mad when people don’t spell it right!

I’d go with [name_f]Lea[/name_f] since it’s a family spelling.

I really love [name_f]Lia[/name_f] lately. [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is the most common spelling, but I’m not terribly fond of it. Somehow, it seems to lack personality compared to the shorter, more condensed versions. [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is my favorite, with [name_f]Lea[/name_f] as a second. I think either would be lovely, but I prefer [name_f]Lia[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], personally. It breaks up all those "E"s, visually.

Seeing as the spelling [name_f]Lea[/name_f] is a family name I would go with that.

I love that [name_f]Lea[/name_f] is a family name for you. It gives the name more of a Spanish or [name_m]French[/name_m] flavor, as opposed to the Hebraic [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. I agree with previous posters that [name_f]Lia[/name_f] looks like a nickname name–that spelling reads as a name suffix, not a full name in itself.

[name_f]Lea[/name_f] could get mispronounced as [name_u]Lee[/name_u], and while [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is prettier, I would always go for the most popular spelling, to make it easier for her.

[name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], definitely. [name_f]Lea[/name_f] would be good, but [name_f]Lea[/name_f] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f] feel more like nicknames.
