They seem to both be about the same popularity here so that is no help. I love that this is my last baby and I could always call her [name]Little[/name] [name]Lia[/name] or [name]Little[/name] [name]Luna[/name] as she will always be the youngest. I seem to be liking the short L names right now. Which do you like better? [name]Lia[/name] or [name]Luna[/name]? Or do you have any other suggestions? I already have a [name]Lace[/name] so that is out! (I also like [name]Clio[/name]/[name]Cleo[/name]). My husabnd thinks they are both OK but he doesnt love either one. If I protest enough he will go with what I want though. lol. Thanks!
Ooo, love [name]Clio[/name]/[name]Cleo[/name].
I think I prefer [name]Luna[/name]…no wait…[name]Lia[/name]…errrrr… I’m not sure. [name]Both[/name] nice.
Other short L’s:
[name]Leda[/name]
[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Lexy[/name]
[name]Lane[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Lara[/name]/[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Liesel[/name]
Defiantly [name]Lia[/name]. [name]Luna[/name] looks too much like ‘tuna’ and is too close to the word ‘lunatic’.
I like [name]Luna[/name] better. It seems more like a real name. [name]Lia[/name] seems more like a nickname and somewhat incomplete spelled this way. I also like that [name]Luna[/name] means moon.
I prefer the [name]Leah[/name] spelling because alternative spellings make me think it’s a nickname. I read an article recently where the author used the nn. [name]Clio[/name] for [name]Claire[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]. My favorite short “L” name is [name]Lark[/name].
I vastly prefer [name]Luna[/name]. [name]Lia[/name] looks very nicknamey to me.
[name]Luna[/name] seems like a witch’s name in a book. I like [name]Lia[/name] better. Or [name]Lea[/name]. Or [name]Leah[/name].
I like both names (I’d probably pick [name]Lia[/name] myself and I especially love this spelling!) but [name]Lina[/name] seems the obvious compromise to me! Plus I far prefer it to [name]Lia[/name] and [name]Luna[/name]. I do like both those names but [name]Lina[/name]/[name]Lena[/name] (both pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-nuh) is one of my all time favourite names. You could even pronounce [name]Lena[/name] “[name]Lay[/name]-nuh” which is also an accepted pronunciation if you prefer that?
Other short L names I like:
[name]Liv[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Leila[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] ([name]Lee[/name]-luh or Lie-luh)
[name]Lara[/name]
[name]Lana[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Lorna[/name]
[name]Lani[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Leni[/name]
[name]Lilla[/name]
[name]Lilith[/name]
[name]Leonor[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Lilou[/name]
[name]Lake[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Leta[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I like [name]Luna[/name]. [name]Lia[/name] is fair. I think [name]Cleo[/name] is cool. What about [name]Lotus[/name] with a nickname Lo. [name]Little[/name] Lo.
Wow. Everyone is soo helpful! It seems that it is a pretty even vote too. So I guess either way is a go.
I have thought of the [name]Luna[/name]/Tuna rhyme. [name]Kinda[/name] put me off but not too much. [name]Luna[/name] sounding like a witch name doesnt bother me at all. I like witches. lol.
As for [name]Lia[/name] I only like this spelling. I went to school with a [name]Leah[/name] and she was a very rude person so I dont like the spelling now. I know a little girl named [name]Mia[/name] and shes a cutie so I think that’s why I like this spelling. I also used to like the name [name]Gia[/name].
I just cannot like [name]Lina[/name]. [name]Lena[/name] maybe but I dont like that it can be pronounced 2 ways. [name]Liv[/name] is too popular for me but I do like it a lot. [name]Lucy[/name] is a maybe, but I dont like the “Loosey” sound of it. [name]Lily[/name] is a NO becasue my mother wants me to name the baby that and I dont want her to think that she named the baby. [name]Love[/name] my mom but dont want that! I dont like [name]Lotus[/name] at all. “us” endings sound boyish to me.
Thanks everyone for the help. 9 more weeks to go!
It is pretty evenly split! I just wanted to add that I knew a [name]Leah[/name] who was a horrid girl, so I am glad you also don’t like that spelling. And I agree with you about not using your mom’s fav b/c it’s YOUR baby and YOU get to name her!
Good luck in the last 9 weeks. I have 8 weeks to go and I am READY.
I have to comment this! I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Luna[/name]~!!! i like [name]Lia[/name] too but still [name]Luna[/name] is just an all time favorite for me! (: also other options
[name]Lyric[/name]
[name]Laney[/name]
[name]Louise[/name] / [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Libby[/name]
[name]Lissa[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] by a thousand miles.
I prefer the traditional spelling of [name]Leah[/name], but I vote for [name]Lia[/name] over [name]Luna[/name]. I feel like [name]Luna[/name] is a name that has a lot of potential to become a brand of menstrual or birth control products. It’s already a brand that sells nutrition bars and sports snacks aimed at women.
I also like
[name]Lara[/name]
[name]Lana[/name]
[name]Leila[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
If you’re avoiding popular names, you might be disappointed by [name]Lia[/name]. L-I-A isn’t very popular, but with [name]Leah[/name] at #28, I think your daughter would introduce herself as “[name]Lia[/name], let me spell it for you.”
[name]Luna[/name] has some drawbacks - tuna, lunatic - but she’s very distinctive. Plus her “L” and her “oo” sound are wildly fashionable, so I suspect that outweighs any negatives.
BTW, I’m the mother of [name]Claire[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Wren[/name], called [name]Clio[/name]. I adore our daughter’s full name - the first three are family names, but [name]Clio[/name] is all her own - but I will say that [name]Clio[/name] is called [name]Chloe[/name] CONSTANTLY. It has probably made me slightly over-sensitive to issues like [name]Lia[/name]/[name]Leah[/name].
Best wishes!
I really like [name]Lia[/name] (it is also my favorite spelling of the name)! Personally, ‘[name]Luna[/name]’ makes me think of a big [name]Luna[/name] Moth (which I have a slight ‘phobia’ of…they freak me right on out!!!).
I’m a bit surprised no one suggested the name [name]Lux[/name] yet.
I have adored the name for years & it’s meaning is fantastic.
I guess you could spell it Luxe, but I much prefer the original un-fussy
‘[name]Lux[/name]’.
[name]Do[/name] you have any idea regarding her future MN yet?
As it is right now, my vote goes to ‘[name]Lia[/name]’ for the FN!!
All the best
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hears “lunatic”! I do like the idea of this name but this association stops me from loving it. Still loving [name]Lia[/name] though
Also re [name]Liv[/name]'s popularity, although there are lots of [name]Olivia[/name]'s around nicknamed [name]Liv[/name], [name]Liv[/name] itself isn’t in the top 1000 names. And as someone else pointed out, while the [name]Lia[/name] spelling is only at number 373, [name]Leah[/name] is at number 28 and sounds the exact same. So in reality there are probably as many “[name]LEE[/name]-uh’s” about as “[name]Liv[/name]'s”. [name]Just[/name] something to think about if you’re worried about popularity, although I love both names
I think I’d be inclined to pronounce [name]Lia[/name] (Lye-uh) like liar… not my favourite. What about the [name]Lea[/name] spelling? Distances it from your historical [name]Leah[/name] but still with the same, obvious pronunciation.
Not convinced on [name]Luna[/name] for the lunatic references, and also the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] character - sweet but very airy-fairy, not quite on this planet.
What about [name]Lyra[/name]?
I love [name]Luna[/name]. I can just imagine an adorable baby girl with this name!
I also like the suggestion above of [name]Lyra[/name].
I think [name]Lia[/name] is lovely. That spelling is really sweet and soft
