Liam // Callum

[name_f]Do[/name_f] we think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] can be a potential nickname for [name_m]Callum[/name_m] ? [name_m]Or[/name_m] too far a stretch ?

You can make it work!

[name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] just read as separate names to me. I think with [name_m]Liam[/name_m] being so common as a full name, it adds to the confusion if used as a nickname for an unrelated name.

If [name_m]Cal[/name_m] isn’t for you, [name_m]Cam[/name_m] is a good alternative.

I think it’s a bit too much of a stretch. I do not see the connection sorry :woman_facepalming:t3:

[name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] are two amazing, yet very distinct names. They share letters and have a similar ending, but in my opinion, it is big stretch to consider [name_m]Liam[/name_m] a good nickname for [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. I don’t think it works, I’m sorry. Perhaps something like [name_m]Linden[/name_m] [name_m]Callum[/name_m] or [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] [name_m]Callum[/name_m] would be a better option to get to [name_m]Liam[/name_m]?

Too much of a stretch for me, especially since they’ve got the same syllable count.

Speaking as someone who has [name_m]Irish[/name_m] heritage. and has lived in different areas of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and the UK… They are completely separate names. [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is more often a name on its own in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] rather than a nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m] or anything else. It would be like having two different first names.

They feel like completely different names to me but since the sounds are right there it could work!

NO, absolutely not

I think it depends on pronunciation of [name_m]Callum[/name_m] . In my dialect [name_m]Callum[/name_m] sounds like CAL/Kal - UMM but I have heard others pronounce it CAL-ee-umm . So the way I say the name I think it would be a stretch but the latter I think it would make sense

Agree that this is a “no” - two different names and Liam is not a shorter or diminutive/ endearment version of Callum. I would either use Liam alone or Callum nn Cal/Cally/Cam/C+middle initial.

Edit: wanted to say earlier - it obv can be - anything can be a nickname - but it’s more whether you want to lose Callum’s use?

I think it could definitely work! If [name_m]Dick[/name_m] can be a nickname for [name_m]Richard[/name_m], or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], then [name_m]Liam[/name_m] can 1000% be a nickname for [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
