Liam?

I am trying to get a feel for others’ thoughts on the name [name]Liam[/name].

We are expecting baby #2 in [name]August[/name] and will find out later this month if it’s a boy or a girl. We already have one son named [name]Connor[/name]. We really like Irish/Celtic/Gaelic/Scottish names.

DH, DS and I are all redheads. So we just assume [name]Baby[/name] #2 will probably be a redhead as well. For boys names, all I like so far is [name]Liam[/name]. But it seems to be really popular. :frowning:

Is [name]Liam[/name] too trendy?

I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Liam[/name] in every way, and it definitely goes with [name]Connor[/name]. However, it is becoming very popular and is expected to rise. I wouldn’t say its “trendy” per se, but how much does popularity bother you? Its a great, great name though. I would love to use it as a nickname for [name]William[/name]

Well I honestly never thought I’d name my child anything in the Top 50. But [name]Connor[/name]'s name rose in popularity a lot after we chose it. And I am struggling with the question of forcing myself to consider something different just because [name]Liam[/name] is popular. Because I do love it in every other aspect.

Although I know it’s made the lists as #5 or something like that, I don’t personally know any other Liams so it doesn’t feel popular to me at the moment.

I absolutely love [name]Liam[/name]! I love it as a stand alone name and as a NN for [name]William[/name]. [name]Just[/name] a great name [name]IMO[/name]!

I like the name, [name]Liam[/name]! Not in top 20 names. in 2010 it was ranked at 30… Not too bad.

I love [name]Liam[/name] and I don’t think it’s trendy at all. I think it’s stylish

[name]Liam[/name] is one of my all time favourite names. I love it so much I really don’t care if it is popular! The popular aspect has lead me to prefer [name]William[/name] nn [name]Liam[/name] for 2 reasons:

  1. IF there was another [name]Liam[/name] in the class he could be known in class as [name]William[/name] and visa versa.
  2. [name]William[/name] gives other nn options if your son chooses he could be a [name]Will[/name], [name]Billy[/name] etc.

The other Irish name I love is [name]Declan[/name].
[name]Conner[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] would be a great combo too.

A similar name in feel to [name]Liam[/name] is [name]Lachlan[/name]. Which while well known is not as popular.
[name]Conner[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] sound like a match made in heaven to me!

Of course [name]Conner[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are sublime!

I love [name]Liam[/name], it’s high on my list of boys names.

It is getting popular, but what good name isn’t these days?

I love [name]Liam[/name]! Its popularity doesn’t bother me at all. I love [name]Liam[/name] [name]Andrew[/name], [name]Liam[/name] [name]Donovan[/name], and [name]Liam[/name] [name]Douglas[/name].

I love [name]Liam[/name], it’s pretty much number one on my list besides [name]Nolan[/name]. It may be a little popular, but I don’t think its trendy at all, I don’t think people will ever look at a child and hear its name is [name]Liam[/name] and think oh it was born in 2012 etc etc. It’s too classic. Also my bf’s name is [name]Conor[/name], so I thought that was funny, Id def have to say they go together!
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Rowan[/name]?

I really like [name]Liam[/name] - I agree that’s it’s gotten pretty popular, but if you love the name I don’t think you should worry too much how popular it is. It goes so well with [name]Connor[/name], too.

Other Irish names that I love (if you want to think of alternatives to [name]Liam[/name]) are [name]Declan[/name] and [name]Desmond[/name] - I think those would go great with [name]Connor[/name], too.

My husbands name is [name]William[/name] [name]Maddox[/name] and has gone by [name]Liam[/name] for his entire life. I absolutely adore the name [name]Liam[/name] ( before and after i met mine, believe it or not) and i think it goes well with [name]Connor[/name]. If you’re worried about it being too trendy, maybe do what my mother-in-law did and name your son [name]William[/name] and call him [name]Liam[/name]. That way it’s different from what most people do, and he has a choice to what he may want to go by when he is older

I like it and think it is not too popular, but for Irish boy’s names I think you can’t go past [name]Declan[/name].

Thank you all! I appreciate your feedback so much!

We do have other names mentioned on the list: [name]Roan[/name]/[name]Rowan[/name], [name]Declan[/name], and [name]Ronan[/name]. But they are all still names that I just kind of like and are putting down in case I feel like I have to choose something other than [name]Liam[/name]. lol!

DH and I each have an uncle named [name]William[/name] that we adore and we thought it would be neat to name our son (if it is a boy) after Uncle [name]Will[/name] in a way.

I’m just relieved that so far no one seems to think [name]Liam[/name] is trendy. I really don’t want any kid to have a name that will be like the next [name]Aiden[/name], [name]Braydon[/name], [name]Jayden[/name], etc. craze.

I adore the name [name]Liam[/name] and was pushing hard for it for one of our boys like you, to honor various [name]Williams[/name] in our families. In the end I couldn’t use it because we didn’t want to use the same starting letters for our twins and my husband was basically dead set on [name]Luke[/name], but if we ever had another boy I would use [name]Liam[/name] in a second.

I don’t think [name]Liam[/name] is trendy at all, although I will concede that it is quite popular. But popular today doesn’t necessarily mean he will be one of 4 Liams in his class. I think there was another thread with some statistics on name popularity, and how nothing today compares to the Michaels and Jennifers of the 80s. Since it is a name that you love and the only thing holding you back is its potential popularity, I think you should go for it, particularly since there is a family connection.

I had pushed for [name]Liam[/name] for my son 14 years ago! My DH, however, thought it was “too different” at the time, lol.

I like [name]Liam[/name] but I do think it’s trendy. Why not [name]Lachlan[/name] or [name]Declan[/name]?

Our last name is one of those that just doesn’t go well with anything too exotic. It just sounds silly. :frowning: We’d considered [name]Ronan[/name] and it doesn’t go well. [name]Lachlan[/name] would be too unusual I’m afraid. [name]Declan[/name] is still a maybe. I don’t love it, but it is alright.

That’s our problem. So many names are nice enough but we just never love them. :frowning:

I love [name]Liam[/name], too. Very handsome and stylish!

It was on my top 3 list but the popularity made me switch for [name]Callum[/name], or [name]Reed[/name] ( and then we went a whole other direction but [name]Leo[/name] does sound like [name]Liam[/name]
