My husband and I are expecting a baby in [name]July[/name], not sure of the sex yet but we have a boy name picked out. We’ve been struggling with a girl name but we want to honor two of our grandmothers who have passed away, my grandmother was [name]Frances[/name] and his, [name]Elizabeth[/name] (nn [name]Libby[/name]). I really like [name]Libby[/name] [name]Frances[/name] but my husband feels like we should name her [name]Elizabeth[/name] and call her [name]Libby[/name]. I like [name]Libby[/name] on it’s own. Opinions?
Firstly, congrats I love both! But [name]Libby[/name] is my favourite. I know [name]Libby[/name] is a nn for [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Liberty[/name] but I have always thought of it as a name in its own right. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Frances[/name] sounds quite heavy and too old fashioned to me, whereas [name]Libby[/name] [name]Frances[/name] feels a little fresher and modern. Go for [name]Libby[/name]!
I think you should name her [name]Elizabeth[/name] and call her [name]Libby[/name]. She can choose whichever she wants to go by when she’s older.
By the way, [name]Libby[/name] is so beautiful! I love that name!
[name]Elizabeth[/name] does give her more options. But ultimately its up to you.
It would be simple to satisfy your husband since [name]Libby[/name] lends itself as a natural nn anyway. I do prefer the combo [name]Libby[/name] [name]Frances[/name] just slightly but not enough to make an argument of it. I [name]LOVE[/name] the significance of your girl combo. Congrats
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is much better, imo. It gives her the option of going by [name]Elizabeth[/name] if she wants, which is always a plus.
I wish I liked [name]Libby[/name] more standalone as I have a grandmother whose Hebrew name was [name]Liba[/name] and [name]Libby[/name] would be VERY easy and direct. But I feel [name]Libby[/name] is adorable and lovely but not quite “full” name feeling.
I kind of feel like there’s many wonderful things about [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Libby[/name] is just one of those facets.
I say [name]Elizabeth[/name] to give her more options as she ages.
