Libby or Layne?

Expecting baby girl and trying on names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Libby[/name_f] (full name Elizabeth) or [name_u]Layne[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] what do you like about both of them? Type of girl you picture? Type of adult?

Older brother is [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “Libby” is my favourite! I picture a carefree happy girl, skipping through the meadows and making strawberry jam. I prefer the sound of [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] to [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Layne[/name_u].

I prefer [name_u]Layne[/name_u]. It’s cool and feels fresh but still familiar. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too common in my opinion, and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is my least favorite nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Libby[/name_f] 1000%, it’s a spunky nn for the more formal [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and my favourite [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nickname. I feel it can be both prissy and sporty, both girly and boyish. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is one of those names that has pop culture references on a few fronts, [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] the Teenage Witch and [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek [name_u]Voyager[/name_u].
I think it’s awesome and would love to see it more!
This all coming from a [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u] that is affectionately called Kibby from my fiancé :two_hearts:

(Layne I dislike by association unfortunately)

I really adore the versatility of Elizabeth/ [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and love it even more as a sister to [name_m]Luke[/name_m] !

[name_u]Layne[/name_u] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are adorable, but I feel like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] can grow and adapt as your daughter ages

[name_f]Libby[/name_f] sounds so right here!
I love it as a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. (I also love it for Liberty.)

Oh, gosh, they’re both adorable. I think they both have a bit of a tomboy flair. I picture a confident woman behind both names–self-assured, strong sense of identity.
Maybe picture which name you’d rather have for yourself? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel more like a person who would want the timeless, feminine full name to fall back on, but likes the casual nickname for everyday wear? [name_u]Or[/name_u] more like a person who has a name that’s more what-you-see-is-what-you-get?
I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here!

I absolutely love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ‘Libby’!! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is elegant, regal, strong, timeless and has so many fantastic associations in relation to history and literacy. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is gorgeous. As for the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f] she’s beyond fun such a sugary sweet vintage nickname that provides a carefree summer day feel to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Great name! Finally I think [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ‘Libby’ work way way better together than [name_m]Luke[/name_m] + [name_u]Layne[/name_u]. Also you could always go [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ‘Libby’ [name_u]Layne[/name_u] that would be gorgeous!

I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because your daughter can go anywhere with that - happy [name_f]Libby[/name_f], studious [name_f]Beth[/name_f], fun times [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], or artsy Betsy/Lily. Overall, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to be is a take me seriously name, while still being gentle and romantic to say. [name_u]Layne[/name_u] to me is a beachy/ surfer girl name (it might be something else where you Iive). It’s quite cool but much more restrictive.

[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is really cute and I like the classic [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with classic [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

Seeing [name_u]Layne[/name_u] makes me want to suggest [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] for you. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] & [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. Feels slightly unexpected but not totally mismatched to me.

Thank you everyone! This is certainly giving me a lot to think about

[name_u]Delaney[/name_u] is lovely, unfortunately it sounds a bit too tongue twistery with our last name!

We’ve got a Liddy (Lydia) so I’m drawn to [name_f]Libby[/name_f]!

We know a [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] and I think I prefer that over [name_u]Layne[/name_u]. It could stand alone or be short for Elaine/Elaina or related name.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Libby[/name_f]

Not a massive fan of contemporary [name_u]Layne[/name_u] with classic [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

[name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] / [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is really charming :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I like [name_u]Layne[/name_u] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but don’t like [name_f]Libby[/name_f].
