Is [name_f]Liesl[/name_f]/Liesel considered a joke name in [name_m]German[/name_m] speaking countries?
No, it’s a [name_m]German[/name_m] name.
Are you [name_m]German[/name_m]? I’ve heard native [name_m]German[/name_m] speakers think it’s a bit of a joke. I love the name and live in the US and wouldn’t want to commit a naming faux pas
No, I’m American and I’ve never heard of it being a joke before. It doesn’t have any bad connotations. It’s just a [name_m]German[/name_m] nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and it’s used on it’s own sometimes.
I love [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] as a nickname to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]. I’ve never heard of it as a joke.
I’m not sure if it’s a joke but it reminds me of the word “weasel” :/. From what I’ve found, it’s definitely considered an old fashioned or dated name in [name_m]Germany[/name_m]/Austria but I don’t think that means it’s a joke name.
