[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I first saw the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] in my grandmother’s yearbook from [name_u]Havana[/name_u], [name_u]Cuba[/name_u] in the year 1957. It belonged to some beautiful distant cousin of hers, dressed in a poodle skirt, who I will never meet. I’ve loved it ever since. It is cute, sweet, vintage…perfect.
BUT even though I personally have never met anyone with this name, has it become too common? I hear [name_f]Lily[/name_f] a lot and have read [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is also on the rise, and these are obviously very similar.
Also, what is your perferred spelling? I know there are some pronounciation issues with the [name_f]Lila[/name_f] spelling but I still think I prefer it. It seems sleeker some how to me, but I’m curious about opinions on that.
Still - I love this name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are considering it a front runner for a possible girl coming in [name_f]October[/name_f]. We like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] most.
I love the vintage spelling of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] looks like the [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] has been cut off and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is too similar to the male name [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is quite pretty.
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] wins this one by a mile, for me.
As a [name_f]Sara[/name_f], I’m not a fan of superfluous h’s, and the y spelling reads as slightly trendy, and does remind me of the male name, [name_u]Lyle[/name_u], as mischa mentioned.
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is lovely, and one I find myself circling back to. I do enjoy the [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] spelling – but that might be because my sister is a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] rather than a [name_f]Sara[/name_f]. That said, it’s not a strong inclination.
[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts don’t go to [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]. I slightly prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] of your two combos.
thank you for all of your replies! I prefer the [name_f]Lila[/name_f] spelling so much more as well, so I think I will stick to it. as for the middle name, [name_f]Camille[/name_f] is my husband’s favorite ever name–so that’s where it comes from. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is for my grandmother. Since [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is all me, we may compromise with [name_f]Camille[/name_f]. still undecided!
