I’m [name_m]Reading[/name_m] that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a derivative of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] as one if the meanings. Would you automatically associate it with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]? We love the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] but do not like the association with the Biblical [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. Would this keep you from using this name?
I’m sure [name_f]Lila/name_f could be a nickname for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], but it’s also a name on its own, with its own meaning. I wouldn’t assume it was derived from anything.
I’ve actually never seen [name_f]Lila[/name_f] listed as a diminutive of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. Nickname, sure, but that’s different since as the PP said, it’s a full name in its own right. I’ve always known it to be a Arabic name meaning “night” (form of [name_f]Leila[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f]) or a Sanskrit name meaning “play, amusement”. I’ve also seen it associated with the color purple. I find it much prettier than [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
I think of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as a stand alone name. It wouldn’t occur to me that it was short for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I have never met a [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
I heard [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as a stand alone before I heard [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I think it works on its own
I love love love the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f]!! I don’t associate it with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (but I do like that name too), and I consider [name_f]Lila[/name_f] to be a standalone name. I think of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] Quartermaine from [name_m]General[/name_m] Hospital 
Ok. Thank you for the responses. I’m still trying to decide if I should ditch the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I wouldn’t want to introduce her to someone and they think it is a nickname for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] since it has negative associations in the Bible…
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a name in its own right, although it is used as a nickname for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], I wouldn’t say they’re tied. I don’t associate [name_f]Lila[/name_f] with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] at all.
