My top two favorite names would have to be [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and I am torn between the two!
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] has a very classic feel to it and is very pretty, and it is ranked in the 200s in terms of popularity which I think is perfect. This would be pronounced lie-lah.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is more unusual and sounds gorgeous as well. I love that [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] can be shortened to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! The only thing that puts me off is that I have been told the “ilia” ending makes it sound like a medical or anatomical term.
What do you think? Thanks in advance!
100% [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] for me!
It has a sweetness and spunk that in my opinion [name_f]Lila[/name_f] just lacks, and I like how she’d stand out more. Doesn’t make me think of anything medical at all?
Another reason why I’d avoid [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is that it has so many different ways to get spelled that it’d get misspelled a lot. And I can see some people pronouncing it lee-lah. Oh, and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is in the top 150 and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] in the top 200, so if you combine those along with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] there are quite a few little lye-lah’s running around, more than you’d imagine!
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] does not sound like a medical or anatomical term! It sounds like a beautiful floral name (well, partially floral). It’s one of my absolute favorites. It has a feminine, playful yet mysterious feel. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a cute nn, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is super popular on its own. Also [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. There are a lot of little Lilys out there!
I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] too, and do prefer this spelling to [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. It doesn’t have the same charm as [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] does in my opinion.
I really love both of these but I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] just wins for me. It’s melodic yet succinct, familiar yet unique, floral but not too frilly. It’s great!
I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f]! It’s sweet and cute, familiar but not something you’re likely to hear on the playground.
[name_f]Lillia[/name_f] is pretty, but as popular as [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are, I think you’d be likely to meet others with the same name. If that doesn’t bother you, go with it!
I would go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. Personally I’d pronounce this like [name_f]Leela[/name_f] and would spell lie-luh [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], or [name_f]Lylah[/name_f]. I still prefer this to [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] though.
For the record though, the -ia doesn’t make it sound like medical term for me, and lots of popular girls names end with this. In fact, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is actually the name of a birth defect, but no one sees it that way and it’s still a really popular name.
My second-oldest niece is named [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] & her mother’s a doctor, & as far as I know no one has ever said anything to my [name_m]SIL[/name_m] about [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] sounding like a medical condition. My niece usually goes by [name_f]Lil[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. It’s floral, sweet, and easy to spell and pronounce. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] could be pronounced “lye-lah” or “lee-lah”, and can be spelled many ways.
I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is just gorgeous! I’ve never heard it before, and I think it’s fresh, and exotic. It reminds me of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], which is a vintage handle that I have such a crush on!
I know many a [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but no [name_f]Lilias[/name_f] at all!
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! I’m a premed student and it doesn’t not sound medical. In fact, it sounds elegant and similar to other “ia” sounding names like [name_f]Aria[/name_f] or [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] while still being unique. I’m usually not a fan of “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” variants, but this is quite lovely.
I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] better, and I think it can be shortened to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] also.
For some reason I always associate [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] with a little Rusian girl who was in my class as a child, with the same name
I would go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. To me, [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] looks off, and I keep reading it as [name_f]Lila[/name_f] anyway. I think it’s too similar to multiple more familiar names ([name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]) and that would get confusing.
Both are pretty; my personal opinion is that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] ages better.
However, [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is lovely as well. I feel like either way, you may potentially meet children with the same name. I don’t see this as a problem personally, but you may feel differently. Either way, there aren’t going to a million [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]'s in your daughter’s class.
