Lilac or Lavender?

Sorry I’ve posted three threads in less than five minutes, clearly I need a lot of help at the moment!
So since I don’t know how to make a poll, I’m doing this instead.
Which name do you prefer?
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] or [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]?

I like both names but in different places. I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is fine as a first name because it’s so similar to [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] in the middle spot. [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] are two of my favourite combos.

I think [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is gorgeous, whereas [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] just isn’t my thing.

I agree with southern.maple, I adore [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], but [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is just too flowery to be a name. For me, that’d be like naming your child [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] or [name_f]Clematis[/name_f], but [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is more like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] for me.

I love [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], adore it. I agree with pp that [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is better in the middle spot. Lav means toilet in the UK which is a wee bit unfortunate (see what I did there  )

I like [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] better, it just seems more name-ish to me.

I agree that [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] sounds more name-ish, but I feel like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] sounds more modern and pretty, and has a better nickname. Also, lilacs are one of the best smelling flowers, so I have good associations. I associate the smell of lavender with cheap perfume.

edit: there is also the color lavender, which I personally don’t like but if you do like it then it might be a plus

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] because of the [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] character

I prefer [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]

I like them both. It depends of what they are paired with.

The above suggestion of [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous.

[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]. I like that it ends in a hard c/k sound, I like the contrast of pastel floral image and strong sound. And I like that sound in boys’ names such as [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] as well. It seems like the less popular answer to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is more unwieldy and somehow more predictable. It also is more old-lady sounding to me. And I like a lot of long names as FNs so [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] doesn’t work in the middle for me or it would 3-3-3 or 4-3-3 and that is just too much.

I would choose [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] over [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], but I do really like both. [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] depends on the pronunciation, as well - is it LIE-LACK, with equal emphasis on both syllables, or is it LIE-lic? I prefer the second way, but either way it is pretty.

LIE-LACK … lie-back, lying and lacking

I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], but I prefer it to [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] in the first spot.

[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]! [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is too much “have a bubble bath” for me. I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is really sweet.

I don’t think I’d use either, but I much prefer [name_f]Lavender[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] (pronounced Lie-lock).

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] makes me think of [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] in the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] series- a rather unimpressive character.
