Lilith?

So, I’ve liked the name [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] for a little while now and I was wondering what some others thought of it? Does it have too much of a negative connotation for you?

Definitely too negative - my mum and sister watch Supernatural religiously, and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is the name of a demon on the show (I think). I always hear my sister go off on a rant about how the name reminds her of ‘pure evil’ thanks to the show. I’m not sure if it’s just her, but because of that, I have mixed feelings.

[name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is the spunkiest of [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I love her look and sound. Why, oh why, must she be saddled with a “bad girl” image. Very sad :(.

[name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is a tricky one. Yes, she’s a negative figure in Judeo-[name_m]Christian[/name_m] tradition, and the “ice queen” character on [name_m]Frasier[/name_m] didn’t do anything to help, either (I haven’t seen Supernatural, but apparently that [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]'s also a bad girl). However, she’s also a bit of a feminist icon. Many feminists believe [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] was unfairly demonized due to her refusal (as the story goes) to be subservient to [name_m]Adam[/name_m] or any man. ([name_m]Hence[/name_m] the reason the organizers of [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] Fair chose that name for it - as a celebration of female power.) Some pagan religious traditions also venerate her as a goddess for the same reason.

All in all… [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] definitely has strong connotations, many of them negative (but not all). If you are the type to shy away from controversy, I wouldn’t suggest using it, but I think it’s a beautiful name nonetheless and deserves to be used by somebody.

Really adorable name but unfortunately it’s got that whole succubus mythology behind it. It’s the same as [name_f]Elvira[/name_f] which is a shame (I only come to like it now seeing it as a fairy’s name in a children’s book)

I’d never use [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] because of the negative connection. Being very religious, I wouldn’t be able to get over the connection ever. Why must the worst ladies in the Bible have some of the best names?
