Lilla (rhyming with Willa)

What do you think of the name?

We think it’s cute and exotic sounding. Of course [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are great, but they are becoming extremely popular, whereas [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] seems unique and whimsical to us. It means lilac in Norwegian and Italian. Let me know if it sounds like we’re making a mistake!

Also please let me know if you know of any baby girl [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilah[/name_f]/Lylas.

Thank you!

I think [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] will be correcting the pronunciation of her name the rest of her life. When seeing the name, I would assume it is a kreative spelling of [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

I know a young [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and and older [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it. I also like [name_f]Lella[/name_f], which I think would prevent any confusion with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

[name_f]Lilla[/name_f] is gorgeous! I personally find it the more intuitive pronounciation, so I don’t think she’ll be correcting people for the rest of her life.

We are using [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]. DH wants to call her [name_f]Lili[/name_f] as a nn, but I will use the full name or [name_f]Lil[/name_f].
I know [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is supposed to be popular, but I dont know any. I would pronounce [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] as rhyming with [name_f]Willa[/name_f], if that helps!

I adore [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]. I have it on my long list but most likely will not move it forward. I think most people will pronounce it lie-lah. I am not fond of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I also adore [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. You could use the nickname [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] (rhyming with [name_f]Willa[/name_f]) with [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. I adore [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I have only known one [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and heard of one other. I have never known a [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilla[/name_f].

I think the pronouncation is obvious enough (you probably will get some [name_f]Lila[/name_f]'s, but I think overall most will say [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]). I think it’s a lovely name with a lovely meaning!

I think [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] is a really pretty name. Sometimes I call my sister [name_f]Lilla[/name_f].(Her real name is [name_f]Lily[/name_f]) The only problem with this name is when the teacher is calling attendence and says [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (lie-luh) instead of [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]. And it may be a pain for little [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] to correct everybody all the time.

I would pronounce it [name_f]Lilla[/name_f], like [name_f]Willa[/name_f], and I don’t think pronunciation would be a big deal. No matter what name you pick someone will pronounce it wrong! I think it’s a beautiful name (:

This was extremely helpful. That you so much!!

I agree! I would never pronounce [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] the same as [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but I guess it’s working considering how much of a problem you think it may be. I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f] myself, but I do like that [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] is more unique.

There’s a berry that has a [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]–might be good to hear from her whether or how much pronunciation is an issue for them. @sara.b.cook I think??

I’ve heard of it before (I think it was the name of an ex-girlfriend of my dad’s, randomly), but with the [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Leila[/name_f] names on the rise I do think it would be mistaken for one of them a lot. The pronunciation is totally clear to me as long as I’m not worried it’s a typo and supposed to be [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

I’ve met I think two Lilys in real life and no [name_f]Lilas[/name_f], FWIW. This may sound like I’m splitting hairs, but [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] feels much more whimsical and cute but also more juvenile than [name_f]Lila[/name_f] - it doesn’t feel as sophisticated or as strong to me as [name_f]Lila[/name_f] does. [name_m]Add[/name_m] in the spelling/ pronunciation/mistaking-it-for-another-name issues and I’m not loving it for you. I’m biased because I seriously love [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but you’re considering using [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] because you love [name_f]Lila[/name_f] but don’t want to pick something too popular (which I’m guessing is the case based on your post), I vote that you either just go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or pick something else entirely. If [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is really popular in your area, [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] will be mistaken for it a lot; if it isn’t that popular, then why not use it? [name_m]Just[/name_m] my (biased) two cents.

[name_f]Lilla[/name_f] is a beautifully uncommon name with all the charm of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] or [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I do know a [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. Her nn is lily.
