Lily-Josephine?

I’m currently reading an amazing book, titled [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It’s a bit odd, but it’s got an amazing little love story element to it. It has a certain [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] type feel (the stepmother hated [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f], causing her to run away from home), without being too much of a fairy tale.

As I was reading it, I found out why [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]'s mother (who was beautifully named [name_f]Helena[/name_f]) chose the name. The direct quote is:

“I read somewhere, I can’t remember where - [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], in the Bible, was so beautiful that the lilies of the [name_u]Nile[/name_u] turned their faces towards him, mistaking him for the sun. I want our little daughter to be both the lily and the [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - the flower and the sun.”

I don’t know why, but the name and the quote are really sticking with me.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is lovely but I probably wouldn’t use it as a double barrel first name. I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u].

That’s a wonderful quote and a lovely name!

What a wonderful name! I would consider it as a first and middle, just because it is a little long.

Thank you everyone  I really love it, but wondered about the length myself.

That is so beautiful! I’m definitely going to write that down, and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is going on my list! Personally, I really love the length. I would use the whole thing as a first name. It sounds like a lovely book too.

The quote is really beautiful imagery but Bible references don’t do much for me. [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is incredibly sweet, though and I like the names together.

I like the sound of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] too, maybe even more. Separating them and using one as a middle name would make it far more usable, but just [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] sounds far less bold… there’s lots of random double barreled names that I love as well, but totally use their charm when they’re split up ([name_f]Amelia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are big ones for me.)

That’s a lovely quote and a lovely name! I also like the potential [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] nickname.

: )

Drop the hyphen and I am on board I would hate the child to get the cutesy nn of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u].

I’m not sure I would even shorten it to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u], she’d likely just be [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].

The only main reason I’m thinking I should keep the hyphen is that [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is also a type of flower, so I like having that connection. (I Know [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a flower name too, but, [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] sounds a bit more fun).

I think the hyphen is waaaaay too much, personally. But (unhyphenated) [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are beautiful. The quote is really lovely as well. I don’t think you lose the relationship to the flower or the beautiful imagery when you lose the hyphen.

(Although I’m sad to no longer see your fave names, the quote is perfect for a name site and looks great as your signature!)

Haha, thank you. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites constantly change, so until I have a definite list, I’m going to not put the favourites in my signature.

What a lovely quote and it is a very pretty name. I don’t think I’d double barrel it though, I’m just not a fan of double barreled names. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] is super cute though. I also think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] works wonderfully too!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it as a 1st and middle combo
