Linden on a girl, London on a boy

I know this sounds crazy, but I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u] on a girl and [name_u]London[/name_u] on a boy, which are not very popular opinions! What do you think?

[name_u]Linden[/name_u]

  • Love it!
  • It’s fine
  • I don’t know
  • Not my favorite
  • Not my style
  • Oh my gosh, don’t do that to a kid!

I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u], but it’s so masculine to me, I can’t see it on a girl at all. I can see [name_u]London[/name_u] on a boy, but it’s not my style for either gender.

@futuremama Thanks for the feedback! The polls are up now!

I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u] on a boy, but it isn’t my favorite for a girl. I think ā€˜[name_f]Lin[/name_f]’ (or any spelling of it) names feel a bit expected and dated when on a girl. I like how soft and sweet [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is on a boy. However, it can definitely work, if you really love it!
[name_u]London[/name_u] isn’t my style, but I do really like the idea of it on a boy! It’s similar to [name_u]Linden[/name_u] and [name_u]Landon[/name_u], so no reason why it can’t be used. It also gives off those soft, unexpected vibes I like. Also, it fits in with the place name trend. I think I slightly prefer it as a middle, but that might be because it isnt entirely my style. Either way, I’d love to meet a boy named [name_u]London[/name_u]!

Until joining Nameberry I don’t think I had ever heard of the name [name_u]Linden[/name_u] before at all, so I have no bias towards it as a boys name at all. [name_f]My[/name_f] problem with using it on a girl is just that it feels too darn close to [name_f]Linda[/name_f]. I’m imagining a difficult lifetime of corrections - especially if anyone who already knows the name thinks of it as a boys name. And on a personal note - a female friend of mine is named [name_u]Jaden[/name_u] has always resented that her parents gave her the ā€œmale versionā€ of the name (as opposed to [name_f]Jade[/name_f] or [name_f]Jada[/name_f]). This would also make me wary of [name_u]Linden[/name_u] when [name_f]Linda[/name_f] exists.

As for [name_u]London[/name_u] on a boy… again, I’m worried about it being forever confused with well-established [name_u]Landon[/name_u] - maybe you’ll actually like this as an alternative though! Seems like you really like the L-nd-n sound! Good luck!

I don’t know about [name_u]Linden[/name_u], it kind of reminds me of ā€˜lindt lindor’. On one hand it does sound quite nice, but then…? I dont know!

London isnt my style, I would much prefer it for a boy though!

Thank you all for your feedback! I had never thought [name_u]Linden[/name_u] being confused with [name_f]Linda[/name_f]… That’s not great. I don’t like [name_u]Landon[/name_u] either, so that might not be a good association. I first fell in love with [name_u]Linden[/name_u] on a girl when it was the name of the MC of a book I read.
