[name_u]Linden[/name_u] is from linta an Old High [name_m]German[/name_m] word meaning “linden tree”. In Baltic mythology a linden tree is the sacred tree of the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of [name_m]Fate[/name_m], Laima. Because of this some Lithuanian women were said to worship the tree for good luck and fertility. It also holds a special place in [name_m]German[/name_m] mythology as it was said that you cannot possibly tell a lie under the shade of a linden tree.
What do you think of the name? Are any of the combos below keepers?
I ike [name_u]Linden[/name_u], but it sounds slightly more masculine to me. I’m not saying I don’t like it on a girl, but if I had to use it I would reserve it for a son. In Icelandic we have Lindar (strictly male), I prefer that to [name_u]Linden[/name_u].
Out of your combos, my favorites are:
I don’t think [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is a good name, especially not for a baby girl. It’s a bit old-sounding, and I think the child may end up getting nicknamed [name_f]Linda[/name_f].
I know a [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] who is a great guy! I do see both spellings as more masculine but I think it can work either way.
Of your combos I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] the most.
I completely understand that! I actually prefer it more for a boy myself, but I’m purposefully seeking out more unisex and surname names to try something new. It fits the bill for me given it’s similarity to [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u].
I personally don’t think it has an “old” sound but I can see how it might for some. I think a [name_u]Linden[/name_u] would be more likely to end up with [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] as a nickname but I suppose [name_f]Linda[/name_f] isn’t completely outside the realm of possibilities.
It is a bit more masculine but I don’t mind it in this case.
I like your suggestions of [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Briar[/name_f], and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m].
I know a [name_u]Lynden[/name_u] and her name is a combo of her grandparents names’.
I had no idea that it that much meaning to it, but it makes the name even more beautiful. I definitely think it works better for a girl, since it has to do with women and a goddess. It would be an odd name for a boy, but it may just me because I know a girl with the name.
I actually think it sounds quite modern. If you think it sounds too old, just try pairing with a more unique or modern name or change the spelling. I do really like the [name_u]Linden[/name_u] spelling tho.
I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] for girls.
For boys I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], and [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u] – especially for a boy! I think it’d work well on either gender though. I used to have [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Linden[/name_u] in my signature. From your combos, these are my favourites:
[name_u]Lynden[/name_u] is interesting! It’s fun to see how much knowing someone with a name colors our view of it.
Nature names, especially tree and animal names, tend to have quite a bit of meaning when it comes to mythology. I can see how it might seem more feminine given the association with the goddess Laima and women worshiping her.
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] is definitely my spelling of choice for this one. I agree it has a nice, modern sound. I think it fits in well with all of the surname, nature, and unisex names that seem to be popular at this time.
Personally, I don’t like the name [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. It reminds me of names anywhere from [name_u]London[/name_u] to [name_f]Linda[/name_f], and I just don’t love the sound. I do think it sounds more masculine than feminine, but it’s just not my style.
I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] very much. It has a cool, understated feel to it. I think it would sound lovely with a more complex middle name like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], or [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] will be the obvious nn, and it’s cute!
[name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] would be quite a nice combo. I also enjoy [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] but it’s nice here.
I think [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] would be the nickname of choice for a girl.
