Linden

Lately I’ve been loving Linden for a boy - I like that it’s soft but strong, uncommon but pretty easy to say and spell, a nature name. My only objective concern is its similarity to Lyndon, a name which feels old-mannish but not in a good way.

How likely would people be to spell it Lyndon? Is that something I’d just have to get over? Is Lyndon globally forever linked to LBJ for people? If so, is that a problem for Linden?

For context, I live in Canada and my other favourite boy names are Barrett, Robin, Quinn, Graham. My top girl names these days are Georgia, Iris, Genevieve and Lucia.

[name_u]Linden[/name_u] is one of my favorite names. I love it on a boy and agree with your assessment of it.

Unseen, some people would think of LBJ, but once they’ve seen it spelled, they won’t. Plus [name_f]Canada[/name_f]! I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as siblings!

[name_u]Linden[/name_u] is such a great name!!

I’ve never seen [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] before (also don’t know who LBJ is), so my instinctive spelling would be [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. I think almost every name will run into spelling problems at one point or another, so you will probably have some people spell it [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m], but I don’t know that it would happen all the time.

I really like [name_u]Linden[/name_u]! I do get your worry about it feeling like / connected to the “old man” name [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m], but I don’t feel like [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] is super common either. For what it’s worth, I’d instinctively think of the [name_u]Linden[/name_u] spelling and meaning if I heard it out loud.

I also don’t get the LBJ reference.

And just for fun, [name_u]Linden[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be the funnest, loveliest sibset ever!

I mean [name_u]Linden[/name_u] and [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] do sound the same, but people will spell it however you tell them too, outside of maybe cafe’s where we all suffer misspellings.

I like the name [name_u]Linden[/name_u] either way, and I feel like old people names kinda flip once you meet a kid with the name. and its kinda fun when they’re a baby and look like a geriatric mutant.

[name_u]Linden[/name_u] feels more intuitive to me as a spelling

I really like [name_u]Linden[/name_u]! It feels substantial and woodsy. I like it for the same reasons you do.

I do associate it with LBJ (I’m an American), but I think that association will fade, especially with this spelling. I would imagine it’s even less of an association in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. You may get some mixups on spelling, but that’s true for a lot of names! I don’t think it would be a huge problem, just something to be aware of. It’s possible that this is just a name that you have to clarify the spelling of because it has two established spellings for the way it sounds.

Of your other boy names, I really like [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] (and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] as well); I think you’ve got a nice style! I also like your girl names.

I think people might sometimes misspell it but I think that it’s so uncommon (yet familiar and easy to say) that there isn’t a “standard” spelling. I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u] and think it sounds great with your other name ideas.

[name_u]Linden[/name_u] is cute. I do think of LBJ but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Plus, the spelling difference takes away the association. I think of the tree.
