Linus Vs Gideon

My second favorite boy name seems to be gaining in popularity so I am on the search for new names and loved both of these names. Which is your favorite? And why? Any middle name suggestions.

[name]Linus[/name], [name]Linus[/name], [name]Linus[/name]!!! I absolutely adore [name]Linus[/name], it’s so quirky and fun and I love the Peanuts association (mainly because I play piano, too!). I love that it has old, old [name]Roman[/name] origins, but it’s still very modern and usable today, and a lot less common than the other -s boys’ names out there ([name]Silas[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Matthias[/name], etc.). If I’m remembering correctly, [name]Linus[/name] isn’t even listed. Popularity isn’t a deal-breaker for me, unless I don’t really love the name, but if it’s not listed on the SSA list, it’s all the better, imo.

I really like [name]Linus[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] (although it’s a bit LOST themed!), and [name]Linus[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Linus[/name] [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Linus[/name] [name]Samuel[/name], etc. Too bad the "S"s smoosh together, but that’s not a deal breaker for me, either!

I love the Biblical [name]Gideon[/name], but I just never could get behind the name.

Good luck!

I like [name]Gideon[/name] best because of the story of [name]Gideon[/name] in the Bible. It’s more popular than [name]Linus[/name] too (#412 according to NB), so more well known but he would not likely meet other Gideons in his class at school.

[name]Linus[/name] only makes me think of the character in Peanuts -although I haven’t seen that comic strip in newspapers for a while, so maybe that association will not be known by his classmates in school?

[name]Linus[/name]!! I love this name, and it makes me think of the character in the movie [name]Sabrina[/name] (which is a great association for me). [name]Gideon[/name] is just kind of “eh” for me.

I prefer [name]Linus[/name].

[name]Linus[/name], to me, reads as geek-chic hipster.
[name]Gideon[/name] is heavily tied to the bible (positive for some, negative for me), and personal associations make it a bit of a dorky name for me.

I like both! I feel like this is really an “it depends” situation for which one I like better. If, in general, you prefer more modern or biblical names, I’d go with [name]Gideon[/name]. If you style is older or less common, then [name]Linus[/name].
If you like timeless or classic, I think either works really well.
I’m not sure which I’d pick. I like [name]Linus[/name] a lot, but I think [name]Gideon[/name] might be a little more usable for me.

[name]Gideon[/name] is beautiful. It’s cool, masculine, and has a meaning because of its biblical ties.
[name]Linus[/name] is ok, but only because of the peanuts. I wouldn’t name my son that, just because my style is more radical names. But it could work for you!

[name]Gideon[/name] definitely. I have never read or studied the bible so I know nothing of it’s biblical origins, but I just prefer the sound of the name over [name]Linus[/name]. [name]Gideon[/name] to me is a strong, willful, handsome man while [name]Linus[/name] is more puny.

I love both! I do prefer the quirkiness of [name]Linus[/name] though. If you would be willing to use both, I think [name]Linus[/name] [name]Gideon[/name] would be a wonderful combo!

Wow, this is a tough one. [name]Both[/name] are awesome, underused biblical names. My favorite is [name]Gideon[/name]. [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] are on my personal list.

I love [name]Gideon[/name].

[name]Linus[/name] to me isn’t as appealing as many other L options like [name]Lazarus[/name]/[name]Lysander[/name]/[name]Levi[/name]/[name]Lemuel[/name] or many of the other Latin names that end in s, like [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], or [name]Silas[/name].

[name]Gideon[/name] all the way! I love how masculine and unusual it is. [name]Linus[/name] just reminds me of Peanuts, which I guess is not a bad association, but it’s a tough one to get past.
