Lisbon?

How do we feel about Lisbon as a first name? I feel like it would be a fairly easily recognizable city name (like [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and London) but a bit more unexpected. In my imagination it could be unisex but then again I love the idea of the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f] for a girl.

Thoughts?

Lisbon is interesting for sure! I am not a huge [name_f]Libby[/name_f] person, but it definitely works for Lisbon! I think [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] or [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] would work for Lisbon, too. It’s a fun and unexpected place name!

I think it’s great! I’m a huge [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] fan, so I am definitely a fan of this one as an unexpected but cool route to both nicknames (or without a nickname even). I see this more as a feminine name, but I can also see it working as a unisex name for sure.

Ooh Lisbon is pretty sleek and cool!! You’ve also got the nn options of [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] which I like too

It sounds like lesbian

I prefer Lisboa, but Lisbon is nice too!

Lisbon is a sleek name at face value. And I love it for that reason, but…

I agree with a previous comment: it sounds like Lesbian. Middle school kids can be mean, and I would worry that she would be teased for her name.

[name_m]Eh[/name_m], I think if you have a connection to the city then it’s fine, otherwise I can imagine how tiring it might become for everyone to ask you what your connection to the city is (as it’s not an established place name).

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is the show ‘The Mentalist’ Lisbon is his partners last name, and that’s what he calls her through out the show.

As for the Lesbian similarity my experience with middle schoolers and school age kiddos in general is they are less and less likely to tease about sexual orientation, however I could see it being misheard in places like restaurants or when being yelled across the playground, and that’s probably something you and and your daughter would have to deal with. So if you feel that you could handle that and that you could walk your daughter through that then go for it.

This is the first time I’m hearing this name but wow… I can see Lisbon growing on me.

For nns I’d use Liss just because I don’t prefer [name_f]Libby[/name_f] haha

I didn’t think of lesbian until I read the replies…

In theory it kinds sounds nice but my first though was that it sounded like lesbian. I’d never even heard of the city before I had to look it up  Other than that, I’m not personally a huge fan but I can see the appeal!

From The Mentalist? :stuck_out_tongue: That’s what I thought of. It’s a good association for me, but only for that reason. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname potential, too! I think it’s doable, though it’s not my style.
