List Opinions

Here is my short list of names. You can feel free to give your opinions, favorites and/or rank the names. [name]Just[/name] let us know what you think  Many of these names are family names and/or honor saints which is very important to us.

[name]Dean[/name] _____ (We are sure [name]Dean[/name] will be our first sonā€™s name but we are unsure of which MN it will like be [name]Michael[/name], [name]Garrett[/name] or [name]Patton[/name] but we are open to suggestions)
[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name] ([name]Nathaniel[/name] and [name]Donald[/name] are also contenders for the MN spot)
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joachim[/name]
[name]Callum[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]

There is a tie for the last spot on my list. It is between [name]Luca[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] [name]Maximilian[/name]. Which would you choose?

Here is a link to my girls thread for opinions as well: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

Top 3 Faves:

1 [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
2 [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
3 [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name]

Honorable Mention:

[name]Luca[/name] [name]Valentine[/name]

I like [name]Dean[/name] [name]Garrett[/name] the best followed by [name]Dean[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. I donā€™t like [name]Dean[/name] [name]Patton[/name] as much due to the fact they both end with ā€œnā€.

I really like [name]Owen[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name]ā€“familiar and highly unusual, sweet and wise! I also like [name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name], [name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name], and [name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name].

I confess I donā€™t care for either [name]Luca[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] or [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] [name]Maximilian[/name]. They both sound greatā€“you nailed the rhythms. But [name]Valentine[/name] is already a bit girly and sweet thanks to [name]Valentine[/name]ā€˜s [name]Day[/name], and [name]Luca[/name] has such a feminine sound with its -a ending and similarity to [name]Lucy[/name]. While I like boysā€™ names soft and gentle, this is a little too sugary for me. I feel [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] [name]Maximilian[/name] goes the opposite direction; the widely recognized name of several powerful popes and then a long, [name]Roman[/name] monikerā€¦feels like a big name to wear [name]IMO[/name].

I like [name]Dean[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Dean[/name] [name]Garrett[/name] (the latter a little more since [name]Garrett[/name] breaks the classic mold a little). [name]Patton[/name] is wonderful, but I like how the others donā€™t share [name]Dean[/name]'s ending. [name]Dean[/name] fits wonderfully with your girl choices

[name]Dean[/name] _____ [name]Love[/name] [name]Dean[/name]. [name]Dean[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is my favorite of the mnā€™s for this one.
[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] - Prefer [name]Elliot[/name], but love the combo with [name]Matthew[/name]!
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name] - NMS. Really dislike [name]Dominic[/name]. [name]Simon[/name] is great - nice change from the suddenly-so-common [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name] - Ok.
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name] - Prefer [name]James[/name] as a formal name, with [name]Jack[/name] as a nn. [name]James[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] sounds wonderful. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Donald[/name] is good.
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name] - Ok. Not a fan of [name]Jude[/name] in general, but it works here.
[name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] - [name]Cleopatra[/name]. Hail, [name]Caesar[/name]! Thatā€™s all I can think of with this one. Not a fan.
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - Interesting combination. Like it.
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joachim[/name] - NMS
[name]Callum[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] - [name]Nicholas[/name] is kinda ā€œehā€. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Callum[/name] at all.
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name] - [name]Kinda[/name] stuffy. [name]Andrew[/name] is dated, [name]IMO[/name]. I know at least 12 [name]Andrew[/name]'s, [name]Andy[/name]'s, [name]Drew[/name]'s, etc of all ages
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name] - MN is really clashing with the first. [name]Love[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. [name]Aloysius[/name] has its place, but it doesnā€™t flow well with the more modern sounds of [name]Owen[/name].
[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it. [name]Bennett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] also sounds really nice.

I like a lot of the first names on your list but Iā€™m not sure about the comboā€™sā€¦

[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] would be gorgeous, if it were spelt as [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Eliot[/name] with just L looks really wrong to me and I think it would confuse people.

[name]Dominic[/name] is nice, but [name]Simon[/name] is a middle aged manā€™s name here.

[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] donā€™t work together [name]IMO[/name], well it would work better as [name]Declan[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. I guess I have a hard time seeing [name]Declan[/name] as a middle name.

[name]Jack[/name] is too popular in the UK for me, and would prefer [name]Jackson[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name]. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] would get my vote out of those possible middles.

[name]Andrew[/name] is a little dated [name]IMO[/name], and [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] arenā€™t my style.

[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name], [name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joachim[/name] and [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] are definitely my favourite comboā€™s on your list, I think they are really handsome.

Suggestion for [name]Dean[/name]'s MN = [name]Patrick[/name]

All your comboā€™s have great flow

Top 3 to go with [name]Dean[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]:

  1. [name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name]
  2. [name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] (prefer [name]Elliot[/name] spelling too)
  3. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Donald[/name] (or [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name])

Would like to see [name]Simon[/name] in first place too. Like [name]Simon[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] better than [name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name].

Some quick thoughts:

[name]Dean[/name] : I actually adore [name]Dean[/name]! I never see it these days although I think itā€™s more popular in other areas. When I have mentioned it before on forums Iā€™ve had mixed reactions, but it still hasnā€™t changed my feelings on the name. I think itā€™s handsome and a strong name without being overly macho. I can see a [name]Dean[/name] becoming almost anything, and it also always brings an image to my head of being very charismatic. Iā€™m excited by the fact that youā€™ll use it. I actually quite like [name]Dean[/name] [name]Patton[/name]. Very handsome.

[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]: Eh. Thereā€™s nothing wrong with this combo, but I find nothing very exciting about. Iā€™m not a big [name]Eliot[/name] fan though Iā€™m not sure why. Growing up I associated it with [name]Pete[/name]'s Dragon (which is not a bad thing), but I really donā€™t think of anything with the name - it just feels bland to me, but thatā€™s clearly just personal opinion so donā€™t let it deter you.

[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name] - Any chance on reversing this? I actually adore both name and would be happy to meet a [name]Dominic[/name] or [name]Simon[/name]. I do actually know men with these names, and theyā€™ve been great namesakes. Handsome, smart, not too common.

[name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name]: Oooh, love it! So handsome. [name]Henry[/name] does seem to be climbing the charts but I donā€™t care! This is really a fantastic combo. Dashing.

[name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name]: I quite like this one too. [name]Jack[/name] is a bit too popular for me these days but still a name I love. And [name]Seamus[/name] is also a love of mine, and I prefer it out of all the nn options. I fins this again to be very handsome - but this combo has just a whiff of mischief to it. A little dash of fun.

[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name]: I actually know someone who has this on their list! I love both names individually and together. [name]Sebastian[/name] is one of my absolute favorite boy names of all time. It too seems to be rising in popularity, but is it such a crime for multiple people to have such good taste? I think not. [name]Love[/name] it.

[name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]: [name]Regal[/name] and strong. [name]Roman[/name] & [name]Anthony[/name] together does especially bring to mind the [name]Roman[/name] Empireā€¦[name]Anthony[/name] & [name]Cleopatra[/name], Romans, yeah. Itā€™s not necessarily a bad thing but you might find it to be a bit too thematic for your tasteā€¦maybe a mix n match with a different middle name?

[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: Seem very biblical, and classic, and I have a feeling you do like that. I know a lot of men named [name]Joe[/name], [name]Joey[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], but here itā€™s in the middle. I again think [name]Gabriel[/name] is such a handsome name. As you can see I pretty much thing your taste is very ā€œhandsomeā€.

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joachim[/name] - A nice way to spice up [name]Samuel[/name]! I do like the nn [name]Sam[/name], but Iā€™ve known a lot of Samuels and the luster has worn off for me.

[name]Callum[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] - Two names I really love, and yet Iā€™ve never seen them put together (that I can recall). I think this works so well together! [name]Callum[/name] has a handsome classic yet not common feel to it, and [name]Nicholas[/name] is a really solid classic. [name]Both[/name] give me a feeling of strength yet individualism. Yes, I read a lot into names sometimes!

[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name] - This works, although I have negative personal associations with [name]Andrew[/name]. [name]Cate[/name] Blanchett actually has a son named [name]Ignatius[/name] who goes by [name]Iggy[/name] which I not-so-secretly love. I think this combination has a nice balance to it even if I have a personal dislike of [name]Andrew[/name].

[name]Owen[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name] - This one doesnā€™t work that well to me. I think they styles just clash a bit. [name]Owen[/name] feels modern, fresh, and athletic to me. [name]Aloysius[/name] is vintage biblical and all studying and dusty books to me. Itā€™s just not working in my head.

[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] - Hmmm. I want to like this but I donā€™t. I adore [name]Beckett[/name], and [name]Daniel[/name] is fine, but together is seemsā€¦abrupt?

[name]Dean[/name] ā€“ I liked [name]Dean[/name] [name]Michael[/name]ā€¦but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Dean[/name] [name]Garrett[/name]. [name]Garrett[/name] just makes the old fashioned [name]Dean[/name] feel more spunky.
[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] ā€“ [name]Love[/name] this, the spelling would take some getting used to for me, but I love this combo.
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name] ā€“ I love [name]Simon[/name] [name]Dominic[/name], for the flow, but I know how much you love [name]Dominic[/name] so I think this combo is very cool. [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Jude[/name] might be better, because I think a shorter name goes better with [name]Dominic[/name].
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name] ā€“ [name]Love[/name] it! Very handsome and cool.
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name] ā€“ I donā€™t like [name]Seamus[/name], but I love [name]Jack[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] ([name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Jack[/name] even more ^_^)
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name] ā€“ [name]LOVE[/name]! I <3 Sebastian but hubby hates it, and Bastian is a great nn.
Roman Anthony ā€“ not my favorite but the combo sounds good. I think Roman sounds weird next to your other names
Gabriel Joseph ā€“ Handsome! Gabriel is one of the few biblical names I honestly love
Samuel Joachim ā€“ eh I really am not liking Joachim with Samuel or with your names. Samuel Patton or Samuel Donald sound cool.
Callum Nicholas ā€“ I think the flow would be better as Nicholas Callum, and I like Calvin better than Callum, but itā€™s still nice
Andrew Ignatius ā€“ ehā€¦this might be my least favorite. Andrew has bad personal connotations to me and I just donā€™t like Ignatius
Owen Aloysius ā€“ Oh love this! Aloysius is sort of a GP of mine (I heard it in Doubt on Meryl Streeps character) and it sounds very cool with Owen.
Beckett Daniel ā€“ eh, second least favorite. Beckett is weird next to the other classic, lovely names on here and I just find Daniel boring.

I hope I helped!

Thanks everyone! The only [name]Eliot[/name] I have ever met spelled it [name]Eliot[/name] so it is weird for me to do the double letters but I might be able to get used to [name]Elliot[/name].

I am really starting to like the idea of [name]Simon[/name] as a FN. What does everyone think of [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Asher[/name] instead?

@Dantea - Ooh I really like [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Jack[/name] too! I am pretty much in love with the NN [name]Nate[/name] and that would let me use it

@sheflieswithherownwings - That is so funny! I know more boys named [name]Jackson[/name] than I can count on both hands but I donā€™t know a single [name]Jack[/name]!

@strawberry36 I do like the idea of [name]Simon[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] as well :slight_smile:

I love [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Asher[/name], very handsome! [name]Simon[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] is lovely and I like it a lot, and I love the nn [name]Nate[/name] too!

Also, there are 3 [name]Jackson[/name]'s in my daycare alone, all just about the same age and they all have the same names ([name]Jackson[/name], [name]Jackson[/name] [name]Mitchell[/name], [name]Jackson[/name] [name]Mitchell[/name] LN) and Iā€™ve met a ton of them at school, but Iā€™ve only met one [name]Jack[/name].

[name]Dean[/name] _____ - Nice name. All the mns sound nice with it!
[name]Eliot[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this name but Iā€™m sorry, I really donā€™t like the spelling [name]Eliot[/name]. It looks incomplete. I prefer [name]Elliott[/name] but [name]Elliot[/name] is good too.
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Simon[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Dominic[/name]! [name]Simon[/name] is ok.
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Declan[/name] - [name]Henry[/name] is nice. [name]Don[/name]'t see the appeal of [name]Declan[/name], sorry.
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Seamus[/name] - [name]Jack[/name] is good, donā€™t like [name]Seamus[/name].
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Jude[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Roman[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] - NMS but nice.
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - Also NMS but good names.
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joachim[/name] - [name]Samuel[/name] is good, not a fan of [name]Joachim[/name].
[name]Callum[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!!! Definitely my favorite!
[name]Andrew[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name] - [name]Andrew[/name] is nice, donā€™t like [name]Ignatius[/name].
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name] - Like [name]Owen[/name], not [name]Aloysius[/name].
[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] - Itā€™s nice but I think there are better names on the list.

I like [name]Luca[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] over the other name. Overall I like your list! I donā€™t think any of the names are bad, some are just NMS.
