Literary-Style Names?

I ADORE classic books! [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u]…

I also love “A Series of Unfortunate Events” though it is technically not a classic book, just written in that style.

Any names like those used in classic books? Vintage, elegant, charming, unique…

Thanks in advance!

I think [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Maud[/name_f] are already good ones.

All the names of the [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] Sisters, especially [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f](also the secret garden) which are less common than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u] from Pride and Prejudice, love [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and [name_u]Maria[/name_u].

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ( little women) I’m not a fan of [name_f]Amy[/name_f] though
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ( [name_f]Matilda[/name_f])
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] ( Great expectations) [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one

Most classic literary names I can think of are just names that would have been common at the time of writing (e.g. [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]). But I assume you’re looking for less common names?

Perhaps:
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/Elinor (the [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] spelling was used by [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] in Sense and Sensibility)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Christiana[/name_f]
Désirée
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]

Dorian
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m]
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_m]Ishmael[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmond[/name_m]
D’Artagnan (if you’re looking for something really unique)

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] (either gender)
[name_m]Jacques[/name_m]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Mattathias[/name_m]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] “[name_m]Hal[/name_m]”
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m]

Hope this helps! I tried to pick out the most “normal” names since they can get pretty out there.

I love [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] and [name_u]March[/name_u] for a boy. I look at 1890s-1910s popularity lists for inspiration!
