I’m losing it trying to come up with a name for [name]Julien[/name]'s little brother (due in [name]September[/name]) and was hoping for some name-nerd help. [name]Leander[/name] means lion-man and I think we’ve settled on [name]Peregrine[/name] for the middle name of the next one, but so far the best names we’ve come up with are:
My husband and I aren’t thrilled with the nickname “[name]Gabe[/name]” and though I like “[name]Ace[/name]” as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name], it’s not a mutual thing yet. Also, it feels like [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] are almost interchangeable, which annoys me. They seem like something we’ve settled on, versus [name]Julien[/name] [name]Leander[/name], which is mostly perfect for us.
Other options discarded-
[name]Atlas[/name]- great for someone else’s kid
Adelai- too girly
[name]Auberon[/name] “[name]Bron[/name]”
[name]Dexter[/name]- serial killer character
[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Cormac[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name]- too literary without deep personal meaning
[name]Henry[/name]- husband nixed
[name]Finn[/name]- too common
[name]Zeke[/name]
I like [name]Gabe[/name] and think it sounds nice with [name]Julien[/name], but if you’re not into that, what about a different nn for [name]Alexander[/name]? What about [name]Xander[/name] or Alexie?
Or…[name]Asher[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Zane[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Zaire[/name], [name]Kai[/name], or [name]Micah[/name]?
I think we’re leaning toward [name]Alexander[/name], though there’s already an [name]Alex[/name] and a [name]Xander[/name] in our friends/family circle. [name]Xan[/name] is a nn I hadn’t thought of. Thanks!
[name]Maximillian[/name], [name]Evander[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name] are going on my list too.
What about [name]Regis[/name]? Or [name]Elliott[/name], [name]Cedric[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] or [name]Roman[/name]? As for the names from your list, I slightly prefer [name]Alexander[/name]. and I love mn [name]Peregrine[/name]!
[name]Elliott[/name] is coming up pretty high on my list, [name]Roman[/name] Polanski makes great movies but he’s made the name unusable for at least another decade. My dear husband would eliminate [name]Regis[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name], but maybe not [name]Cedric[/name] . . .
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] is just perfect with his brother! It is hard to beat how nice they sound together!
Other suggestions:
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Victor[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Luis[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Vincent[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Leander[/name] and [name]Chester[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
I think both [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] work really well with [name]Julien[/name]. [name]Julien[/name] is a relatively ‘soft’ sounding name, with a long of strong historical punch (… [name]Julius[/name] [name]Caesar[/name]). [name]Gabriel[/name] also is quite ‘soft’, with a long of historical/religious significance… fits very well with [name]Julien[/name] (though if you don’t like the NN [name]Gabe[/name], it might be a hard name to go with, since [name]Gabe[/name] does seem like it’s almost an unavoidable NN once he gets into school. Maybe you could try to use the NN ‘[name]Abe[/name]’ though?). [name]Alexander[/name] is not quite as ‘soft’, but has very strong historical strength (… [name]Alexander[/name] the Great) (and there are lots of very usable NN’s, so it’d be easy to find one you like). [name]Julien[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] sound like they are brothers who should be ruling the [name]Roman[/name] and Greek empires. They make complete sense as brothers names.
I really like the suggestion made of [name]Evander[/name]. I think that is a fantastic name. It feels quite a bit different than [name]Julien[/name] (it’s not even slightly ‘soft’), but I think it would work really well with [name]Julien[/name] nonetheless.
