Little Brother for Samuel

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! Expecting a little brother for [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Raad[/name_m] in a few weeks time. We thought we had a name picked out but then my SO threw me a curveball.

We were going to name [name_u]Baby[/name_u] #2 [name_m]Abram[/name_m] Mikhael (alt. spelling “[name_m]Mikhail[/name_m]”). Both middle names are after each of our dads… However, my husband recently suggested the name [name_u]Theo[/name_u], which I really do like, but have a few hesitations about.

First, it’s more common this year than [name_u]James[/name_u], which I had previously nixed for being “too popular”. And I’m not sure it pairs as well with our Arabic middle and last names. I’d definitely like to keep Mikhael as the middle… Thoughts?

Would [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] + [name_m]Abram[/name_m] set too much of a Biblical naming pattern for future babies? We’d probably use the NNs [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_m]Abe[/name_m] or [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] a lot.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I love [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]! I think that [name_m]Abram[/name_m] is absolutely perfect for his brother. I suppose they have sort of a Hebrew/Old Testament-y theme, but I wouldn’t let that stop you. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] is just like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] in that it’s masculine & handsome, but also has a kind gentle feel. The nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is adorable & unexpected these days too.

I like [name_u]Theo[/name_u], but it just doesn’t have the same sparkle as [name_m]Abram[/name_m]. Maybe it’s because I hear it a ton on little boys in the past couple of years. It’s getting way popular. I’d at least use it as a nn for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are very cute together, & I think that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Miikhael sounds perfectly nice.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Abram[/name_m] are nice, but definitely has a biblical feel. I understand about the “too popular” aspect as well.

What about [name_m]Abner[/name_m]? It’s also a classic, vintage name & [name_m]Abe[/name_m] could still be the nn.

I think [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] comes across as a serious proper name for adults if you know what I mean. I think it would be a shame to just use [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for you second son. I would use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Theobald[/name_m] especially since you use nicknames anyway and it could still be [name_u]Sam[/name_u] & [name_u]Theo[/name_u].

As for [name_m]Abram[/name_m] it’s a good solid name. It seems more religeous to me than [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], but [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] reminds me more of [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] or the actor than the bible. Not everyone is religeous so I would not let the association stop you.
