I am looking for ideas for my little boy. He will be joining [name]Violet[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Alice[/name] in early [name]March[/name]. Middle name will most likely be [name]William[/name] and we have a Swedish last name. Not sure if we want to go vintage, Swedish or another route entirely with his name. Here are a couple ideas that we have so far:
[name]Oskar[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Gunnar[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]William[/name] (Husband doesn’t think you can name a boy just [name]Jack[/name]. He says it’s a nickname. Thoughts?)
Ha, guess we only have three. Thoughts on the above and suggestions welcome! Thanks!
I love [name]Jack[/name] [name]William[/name]! Very handsome, and yes, it can be used as a first name nowadays. [name]Gunnar[/name] [name]William[/name] is very handsome, also!
I think [name]Oskar[/name] and [name]Gunnar[/name] are so much more distinctive than [name]Jack[/name]. Yes, you can name a boy [name]Jack[/name], but it retains a boyish, informal quality which I don’t think matches [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Lillian[/name]. [name]Both[/name] [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] I would classify as vintage rather than Scandinavian, btw.
[name]Both[/name] daughters have a 3-2 syllable flow, which I think you should preserve with ____ [name]William[/name]. 3-syllable vintage/Swedish options:
I really love [name]Jack[/name] [name]William[/name]! I think [name]Violet[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], and [name]Jack[/name] are just adorable together. [name]Jack[/name] is on my list, and I plan on using just [name]Jack[/name]. My brother is a [name]John[/name] [name]Robert[/name], III, and I want to leave [name]John[/name] up for grabs to him if he would ever want a IV, but I still want to honor my brother and dad, and even grandfather (who, consequently, went by [name]Jack[/name]). And I don’t like [name]Jackson[/name], so [name]Jack[/name] is perfect for me. It’s used almost as frequently as just [name]John[/name] is, and it’s the one nickname that’s not too nicknamey for me (and most nicknames are!). I think it’s totally usable.
I think [name]Oskar[/name] [name]William[/name] is great, too, though, and I love [name]Violet[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], and [name]Oskar[/name] together, as well. [name]Gunnar[/name] is okay–pretty cute, actually–but much too violent for me, personally.
Thanks for the replies, everyone! My husband suggested [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] last night. [name]Kinda[/name] eerie. Guess we will have to add them to the list I appreciate your thoughtful suggestions.
2ndly, I thought I would break into this seemly girl only world and throw out a few more names from my list to hopefully draw some more opinions to help us.
[name]Axel[/name] - I know two here in [name]France[/name], both lovely boys, DH asks if I gave each a rose
[name]Felix[/name] - I know 5 here in [name]France[/name], it’s getting a bit tired. It was top two for us, we went with [name]Eric[/name] and at this point I’m glad
[name]Gunnar[/name] - too violent for me, but it’s cute
[name]Jasper[/name] - love it
[name]Linus[/name] - love it, would have used it but it’s bad in French
[name]Miles[/name] - love it, good friend used it first
[name]Oscar[/name] (or [name]Oskar[/name]) - prefer the k, the Grouch spells it with a c. You’ll have hot dog associations too. If you’re ok with those than it’s a great name
[name]Otto[/name] - think ‘auto’
[name]Simon[/name] - no opinion on this one
[name]Thor[/name] - I knew a [name]Thor[/name] at my first job. 6’5" and rowed crew, stunningly handsome blonde. If you have reason to think your son might do that, please do name him [name]Thor[/name]!!!
