Little sister for Eleanor

We are having a hard time deciding on a name for our second daughter (due Sept)! Our first daughter’s name is [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. We like traditional/old fashioned names but get stuck on names that start with vowels. We are not opposed to using the same letter but can’t seem to agree on one name! Here is our current list:
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] - my favorite but we live in [name]Charlotte[/name] and hubby doesn’t like “[name]Charlotte[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name]”
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]

Any thoughts?!

The middle name will either be [name]Keen[/name] or [name]Lee[/name] (both family names)…

Thanks!!

I’m planning to use [name]Eleanor[/name] for my first daughter, so I’ve given this a bit of thought. From your list, I think [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Abigail[/name] would work wonderfully. I’m less of a fan of [name]Emily[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] (though they still are lovely) because I don’t care for sibling names starting with the same letter, but that’s just me.

Other ideas:

[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]

I think [name]Hazel[/name] works best with both middle name choices, and it’s my favorite on your list (besides [name]Charlotte[/name] … but I agree with your husband, sorry). I think it also works with [name]Eleanor[/name]

[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name] <3

I think that I like [name]Hazel[/name] the most with [name]Eleanor[/name]. My second favorite would have to be AbigailI also like [name]Charlotte[/name], but I do have to agree that the “[name]Charlotte[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name]” would become annoying. I do like [name]Emily[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name], but I also think they have been too trendy for the past decade. As much as I love [name]Elizabeth[/name], it’s a lot with [name]Eleanor[/name]… I definitely think the “[name]El[/name]” pattern would be hard to deal with.

I really like the previous posters suggestion of [name]Iris[/name], I think that would be lovely. [name]Grace[/name] is always a winner and I think it sounds wonderful with [name]Eleanor[/name]. Good luck!

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Eleanor[/name]. Agree with others that you might not want to start an “[name]El[/name]” trend.

Of your choices, [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] are my favorites. [name]Charlotte[/name] is beautiful, but a no-go for me if I lived in [name]Charlotte[/name]. I live in GA and wouldn’t name my daughter [name]Georgia[/name].

I second some of @celestemilmun’s suggestions. What about…
[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Ada[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Lee[/name]

A few other thoughts…
[name]Adeline[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Keen[/name]/[name]Lee[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Lee[/name]

Thank you! [name]Ada[/name] is on our long list, perhaps we should revisit that again. [name]Glad[/name] people seem to like [name]Hazel[/name]! We are fans but were worried about what others would think. I suppose I should start to let go of [name]Charlotte[/name]!

I also love [name]Louise[/name] but my grandmother’s name is [name]Louise[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and since we used [name]Marie[/name] as the MN for [name]Eleanor[/name] we don’t want her to think we are going to name all of our children after her!!

Thank you for the suggestions of [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] but two of my close friends used those for their littl girls - both beautiful though!

From your list I like [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] best as a sister to [name]Eleanor[/name]. Some more suggestions are–

[name]Eleanor[/name] and

[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Dorothea[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

I love your daughter’s name! [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Marie[/name] is so gorgeous. I really like your options of [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name], although they’re significantly more popular than [name]Eleanor[/name], if that matters to you.

Names I really like with [name]Eleanor[/name]:

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] (which was suggested, but I had to echo it! [name]Love[/name] it)
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Gwendolen[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]/[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] (maybe it’s just because [name]Eleanor[/name] _____ [name]Grace[/name] is my [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Lena[/name] combo, but I just love these two together! So classic and gorgeous, imo)

Good luck!

I adore [name]Abigail[/name]. [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] are a great sib-set. Does [name]Eleanor[/name] have a nickname?

Also, since you like traditional names, if you don’t want one that starts with a vowel, how about [name]Victoria[/name]?

Thank you all again! Naming #2 is so much harder. We are still leaning towards [name]Hazel[/name] but we also added [name]Maren[/name] to our list! [name]Ah[/name]! I felt like when I was pregnant with [name]Eleanor[/name] (we call her the full name) something just clicked when we found her name but I still haven’t felt that with this baby. Kind of like when you find your wedding dress but way harder!!

[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]! <3

I am due in three weeks with our own [name]Eleanor[/name]'s little sister, so this thread is very timely for me too! I’ll share our short list – although I love the suggestions here…

[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Lyla[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] ([name]Rosie[/name] for short…we call [name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] for short, so we like having another “cute” nickname while she is young)
[name]Evalyn[/name] (although I have similar reservations about the E trend…especially since we like [name]Emmett[/name] for a boys’ name down the road…however [name]Evalyn[/name] is a family name for us and I do love it…)

Good luck!

I like [name]Hazel[/name] from your choices. The others are too over-used [name]IMO[/name]. What about [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Rosalyn[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Carys[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Hattie[/name], or Georginia?

[name]Eleanor[/name] is probably my favourite name - so of course I have sibsets ready to go! I would avoid [name]Emily[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] (even though that’s my name!) bc its too much.

[name]Hazel[/name] is my fave from your list, but I think its a lot ‘trendier’ than the classic [name]Eleanor[/name].

[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Harriet[/name]* [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Celeste[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] [name]Keen[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name]* [name]Lee[/name]

*my two faves.

[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Lee[/name] - beautiful <3

I like your other name choices but think that [name]Hazel[/name] is the best fit from your list. When you said you were considering [name]Maren[/name], I thought of [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Marion[/name]/[name]Marianne[/name] too ([name]Maren[/name]'s pretty different style-wise from [name]Eleanor[/name]). [name]Margaret[/name]'s my favorite of these and would be a great fit with [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Keen[/name] both work well too. [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Meg[/name], [name]Greta[/name], or [name]Daisy[/name] are nice nns too.

A few other possibilities:

[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Pamela[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]

Too bad [name]Charlotte[/name] is out b/c that would have been great. I find [name]Hazel[/name] too trendy for classic [name]Eleanor[/name]. I’ll second some of the previous suggestions in my order of preference: [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Julia[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], and maybe [name]Harriet[/name].

I love [name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name] together. Gorgeous!
