Our daughter is named [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], just [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. And she’s going to have a little sister this summer! We need a name that will compliment hers.
Looking for an uncommon, but not unusual name that’s preferably nickname-proof. We like one and two syllable names, short and sweet. Nothing that needs an explanation, no alternative spelling.
We like classic, older names that have fallen out of style vs. new names that are just a little too special. We generally do not like names that rely too heavily on vowels ([name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f]) or names that are overly elaborate ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]).
Names we are considering include: [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f].
As soon as we found out it was a girl, my father in law (whose name is [name_m]Ed[/name_m]) suggested in jest that we name her [name_f]Edwina[/name_f]. So that’s been her temporary name and even though my Mother in law grimaces every time we say it, I have to admit it is growing on us! (Of course, [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is an alternative for this.)
Looking for suggestions that are in the same vein as [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] - classic, short, not overly common, no funny spelling, nothing too ornate or too “out there”. Naming a human is hard!
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is such a beautiful name! You could always try:
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and Otillie
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Holly[/name_f]
Or perhaps if you wanted to keep [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as the nn you could name her:
Of your choices, I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] sounds a little better with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is sweet. I really like the sister set of [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f], too.
I have to agree the [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] sounds beautiful with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]!
Also maybe,
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]
Think you have come up with some lovely choices already. Other names you might like are [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f]/[name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
I somehow picture a name ending in -a. Like [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] for example. While I like all the names on your list I think some of them sound a bit dull in comparison to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. In my opinion [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is the name that sounds best with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] from your list but I would go for the long form [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and use [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as a nickname.
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Veda[/name_f], [name_f]Vada[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], Cana
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Sia[/name_f], [name_f]Signy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Junie[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Djuna[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Saga[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Neva[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] (plus seconding [name_f]Fleur[/name_f])
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] or [name_f]Inez[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
Gwen and Etta
Gwen and Calla
Gwen and Tara
Gwen and Liza
Gwen and Betsy
Gwen and Tilda
Gwen and Carla
Gwen and Freya
Gwen and Hedda
Gwen and Alma, Salma or Selma
Gwen and Uma
Gwen and Kira, Keira
Gwen and Naomi, Nemi, Demi
Gwen and Magda, Maggie, Martha
I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. Besides being a beautiful name all on its own, its connection to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m] makes it utter perfection. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f]? Swoon.
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (I like this a lot better than [name_f]Edie[/name_f])
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Esti[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
Other people have already suggested [name_f]Tess[/name_f], which was my first thought and which I really like. My only reservation is that [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] share their only vowel, so they could end up sounding quite similar if you imagine calling them in a playground.
Other ideas for strong, simple older names that are still familiar enough not to sound weird include [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] (carrying on the Welsh theme)
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (like [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] this is a short form of a longer name that I actually prefer as a standalone)
From your list I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f], and I actually really like [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] as well, I have always had a soft spot for it for some reason. I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is too similar in sound to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] to my liking.
You’ve been given some wonderful suggestions…
I’d vote for [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and one of the following names:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
I know a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] whose nickname is [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and her older sister is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and everyone calls her [name_f]Viv[/name_f]. Other names that could work are [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], or [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I like the suggestion of [name_u]Eden[/name_u] with the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. Good luck and I hope that you find a name that works!!
