[name_f]My[/name_f] Husband and I just found out that we will be welcoming another little girl in the [name_f]Spring[/name_f] to join big sister [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. Hubby loves the names [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Colette[/name_f] - I worry that [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is too “matchy” to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but prefer it over [name_f]Colette[/name_f] and have always been partial to the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. I am obsessed with the names [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Hubs is disinterested in either of those options.
In this forum, we are hoping to find some unbiased tie-breakers in our seemingly endless debate over baby girl names as well as some new ideas.
Our last name is Swann and we would like to keep with the same theme of vintage, timeless “old lady names” with our second daughter as much as possible.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions, I know they will be spectacular!
I love your name taste!! I don’t think that two names starting with the same letter are too much. Lots of parents do it. You just have to think about if you’re planning to have another child, because if so you should have another “V” name prepared so you can stick with the theme. I honestly think that if you two can agree on a name, you should go with it!! It’s hard enough for couples to find a name that they both like as it is, and I think it’s great that the name you both like sounds good with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I honestly think that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Collette[/name_f] sound more matchy than [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], because they both end in the -ett sound and have two syllables. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] both are V names they have different syllables and give off different vibes. As you can see, I’m voting for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! You might want to make a poll so you could see everyones opinions easily. I could make one for you, if you like. Here are my middle suggestions.
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the options. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is probably my least favorite of the ones you listed. I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Collette[/name_f].
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I have no problem telling you that I haven’t the foggiest of how to create a poll on here.
I do love the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]; I think it’s so sweet. I can say that as soon as my husband mentioned the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] I immediately thought of the middle name “[name_u]Lake[/name_u]” to accompany it, but I think the middle name “[name_f]May[/name_f]” is just the sweetest.
As far as the “V” theme goes, I do agree that if we commit to two “V” name daughters we might as well bestow our potential (though unlikely) third child with a “V” name as well, which I am sure we will have no problem doing.
I think both Vivienne and Colette are too close to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], one in look, the other in sound. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are beautiful with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], personally I adore [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
Others I especially like with Violet:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f]’s name, and the other options you mentioned are also beautiful.
It sounds like you both agree that you like the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] but are worried that it might be too “matchy” with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] because of the same starts to the names. The sounds are a little matchy, but not too much so.
Personally, I would probably vote for [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as a sister for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] over [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], primarily because [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] feel more stylistically similar to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] looks a little long when compared to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. But it sounds like maybe your husband isn’t as sold on the [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] options? The names he loves have a [name_u]French[/name_u] influence to them, so are there any other names in that category you both may like?
Here are a few other ideas:
Violet & [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
Violet & [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
I also second the idea of [name_f]Adele[/name_f] or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] that @OpheliaFlora already suggested!
Congratulations
From your options I really love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Colette[/name_f]!
Hmmm maybe:
Cosette, Mavis “Mave”, Adelaide “Laidy /Addie”, Hazel, June or Juniper ”Juni / Junebug”, Olive “livy”
Vivienne is super cute and…I don’t hate matchy names.
A springy name I suggest is [name_f]Suzy[/name_f] [name_f]Adara[/name_f] or [name_f]Rita[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] a whole heck of a lot! What a gorgeous name.
I have a bias opinion because my niece is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and I think she is darling and I just love her name! [name_f]My[/name_f] sister also considered [name_f]Colette[/name_f] as a tribute to my mom. So I like that too
I am going to suggest
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorthea[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]/ [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f] /Tessa
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Julienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
I am kind of crushing on [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with little sister [name_f]Dorthea[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] ([name_f]Dot[/name_f])
Violet [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is gorgeous! [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is beautiful, but I do think that it’s a little bit close to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I suppose if it was the only name that you guys both love it shouldn’t be a deal breaker. [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is lovely too. And keep trying to get your dh on board w/Maeve or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Those are both lovely.
For [name_f]Violet[/name_f]’s sister, and with your surname, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]!
Not another V name, so not [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Colette[/name_f] or [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (much as I like them) work well with your surname.
I would not put [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] together, both because of the alliteration but also because [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a nice straightforward name and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] has that ne at the end that annoys me. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] would be a better combo.
Violet and [name_f]Colette[/name_f] again matchy.
Violet and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are gorgeous, better even than [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
We know a young couple who named their daughters [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].
If you want the ette sound at the end, what about
Georgette
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Jeannette[/name_f]
[name_f]Marietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Janet[/name_f]
[name_f]Minette[/name_f]
or something like those.
I like
Violet and [name_f]Etoile[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Mignon[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Amandine[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Solange[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] Swann
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] Swann
I’m not sure about [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Collette[/name_f] together but love vintage names.
Nancy, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f] would be nice.
Cora [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is very cute, I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Colette[/name_f] which I think works with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] because they’re not ending in the same let sound. Although I love [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] not sure it goes with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Livia[/name_f]?
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]/Livia
I love your surname. Perhaps you may like [name_f]Verity[/name_f]?
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Minette[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliett[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is lovely as well but I also don’t love the idea of repeated V initials… that would bother me.
I can’t say I love [name_f]Colette[/name_f], although it could work.
Love all your names so classy and effortless. I think out of your top contenders both [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] & [name_f]Colette[/name_f] are matchy. [name_f]Colette[/name_f] with that strong ‘t’ sound that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] also has and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] because they both begin with a V. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] I just think this name is beyond beautiful, so classic and very elegant. I also love the nickname [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] Swann is dreamy and sounds beautiful with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. However I think if you were to have more children it could be limiting as you may feel tied in with using another V name and run out of V names. Personally I love loads of V names including [name_f]Verity[/name_f] & if my third was a boy I love [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]/Valentin or for that vintage flair [name_u]Vernon[/name_u] is cute and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is dashing. I would use [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] in a heartbeat.
I think as hubby isn’t interested in [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] I would move away from them here are some further suggestions…
