Liv/Olivia/Olive

Which one do you prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or just [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on her own?

Definitely prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f] out of the two, simply because I’m over [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] at the moment. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name, but so overused.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m not against diminutives as given names [name_f][/name_f]- my own name is one [name_f][/name_f]- but on this occasion, I do prefer a formal name for [name_f]Liv[/name_f], because [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on its own just doesn’t seem complete to me.

I like Olivia/Liv or just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I’m one of the few people who just doesn’t get the allure of [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. :person_shrugging:

I will always prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] to [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I don’t mind the reference to olives but I wouldn’t want to name a daughter just [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] sounds more complete to me. I couldn’t care less about its popularity. It’s a beautiful name, not in my family nor do I have a friend’s daughter with the name, so I would be happy to use it.

I prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f] but I really like both.

Also, [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a full name I think is totally acceptable these days. It wouldn’t be my preference, but I wouldn’t be surprised or put off to hear it.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is my preference—Twelfth [name_m]Night[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] is one of my favorite plays and despite the popularity of her, I will always love her. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is my second choice—I love her a lot! [name_f][/name_f] I also think [name_f]Livia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivet[/name_f] are so lovely; if any [name_f]Liv[/name_f] name can replace [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] for me, it’d be [name_f]Olivet[/name_f]. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:[name_f][/name_f]. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is also lovely, though!

I prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] playful yet clunky, cute but solid. Sweet, sassy [name_f]Liv[/name_f] would be my next pick

I prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f] over [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] because I think it’s quirkier, but also love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on its own as it is a valid standalone Scandinavian name outside of its usage as a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is gorgeous such a dreamy, tranquil choice that feels peaceful and has this sweet cottagecore folkish imagery attached. Absolutely love [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. Whereas I actually dislike [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] the overall sound irks my ears so I would not choose [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. After [name_f]Olive[/name_f] I prefer [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a stand-alone name. I actually think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is very cool girl Scandi chic.

I prefer Liv as a standalone - it’s so confident and chic!

I like Olivia, it’s very romantic, but it’s quite a lot of name to have to say in real life (I know a bunch of Olivias). Meanwhile, Olive is a lovely sound and not as much of an ask to say, but it’s just a tad too cute for me. I’d possibly go Livia as my second choice.

I would prefer any long form over ‘just Liv’ because it’s got a spiky incompleteness which I find jarring. I’m a ‘long name on the birth certificate, nickname every day’ person but can still appreciate a legal [name_m]Archie[/name_m] or [name_f]Bella[/name_f] etc [name_f][/name_f]- but [name_f]Liv[/name_f] just looks/sounds unfinished and abrupt to me. Maybe because it’s like, live without the e? Maybe because it rhymes with shiv?!

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is beautifully Shakespearean, it flows off the tongue nicely and has a princessy feel. It’s no wonder it’s so popular. The popularity (and knowing one who was a real snake in the grass) has put me off, but in isolation I have to admit it is lovely.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] feels fresher, less expected but still on-trend vintage and nature-y. Somehow both stylish and clunky. It does slightly hover between ‘quirky vintage’ and ‘literal food’ for me, though.

[name_f][/name_f]

Sooo my answer is, a long form with the nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f] rather than just [name_f]Liv[/name_f], but for me there’s not much to choose between the two.

[name_f][/name_f]

Agree with @ashthedreamer[name_f][/name_f] that [name_f]Olivet[/name_f] is intriguing and a great choice too!

I like just [name_f]Liv[/name_f] best but I also like [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on her own! I think it is zippy, yet classy.

I personally prefer Olive overall. Her connection to nature, how soft her sound is and the look altogether- lobe it so much! Also! The vintage, old fashioned appeal :hugs:

Liv is sweet on her own also- though i prefer it for others. (Weirdly enough I’ve named the first daughter of my Sim household Liv)

Olivia is very highly regarded in terms of popularity, so i can see others find her stunning. It’s a beautiful name but I’m more neutral towards the name honestly. Could my opinion change in the future? Definitely!

I like Olivia with the nickname Liv more so than for Olive. For Olive, i like Ollie for its charm, tomboyishness and how it is a name that can be adapted for the wearer (not saying Olivia isn’t of course )

Overall, Olive is my favourite :purple_heart:

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is my favorite but I’m totally fine with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a standalone name

I went to school with a [name_f]Liv[/name_f] who was just [name_f]Liv[/name_f], so it works fine as a standalone for me! I prefer it as a nick name personally, but if you prefer it on its own, there wouldn’t be an issue.
