I think it would be a nice nickname - for maybe an [name]Olivia[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I’m not keen on [name]Liv[/name] as a full name but I quite like as a nickname for [name]Olivia[/name].
I don’t think that it’s too trendy. It’s just barely breached the top 1000, at least in the U.S., so it’s not in wide enough use for me to consider it to be trendy. It does have a sort of celebrity vibe to it, since it’s so strongly associated with [name]Liv[/name] [name]Tyler[/name] and it’s also the name of [name]Julianne[/name] [name]Moore[/name]'s daughter. I like it. I think it would age well.
I have heard that the original Scandinavian pronunciation is bit different from pronuncation that [name]Liv[/name] [name]Tyler[/name] uses (more like “leev” than a synonym for “live”), so that might be a bit problematic if she ends up traveling there.
I like [name]Liv[/name] as a nickname too. On its own, it seems too short -although behindthename.com says it’s a legitimate Scandanavian name in its own right and not just a nn (as I previously thought). I just feel like a child should have a long name for more formal situations and a shorter nn version for friends & family to use.
[name]Livia[/name] is a nice, slightly longer alternative and also a name in its own right & not just a nn. I know 2 Livias who are both around my age -but I think it’s nice for a baby/child/teen/grandmother too.
I really love [name]Liv[/name] on it’s own, as a separate name. I know most people know it only as a nickname for [name]Olivia[/name], but I knew it first as just [name]Liv[/name]. Then [name]Olivia[/name] became really popular.
We considered many names for our first daughter (after we conceded to not use [name]Audrey[/name]) so for about a month before she was born [name]Ava[/name] was very nearly [name]Liv[/name]. She even has a Build-A-[name]Bear[/name] with the name made out to [name]Liv[/name]. So I guess I’m biased. But it’s never been trendy.
[name]Liv[/name] is a stand alone Scandinavian name that I find appealing. I think it’s cute enough for a girl and yet ages well too. I wouldn’t consider it trendy at all. It makes me think of the luminous Norwegian actress [name]Liv[/name] Ullmann who used to star in many [name]Ingmar[/name] Bergman films. Of course, the younger generation would be more apt to associate the name with another actress, [name]Liv[/name] [name]Tyler[/name].
I like [name]Liv[/name] but it feels kind of incomplete. I think it’s better off as a nickname for [name]Livia[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name]. I know it can be a separate, legitimate name, but I feel it works better when it’s short for something.
I agree, I don’t really find it trendy at all. I love [name]Liv[/name]! To me, it’s not incomplete at all. I seriously considered it as a FN, but I decided I liked the Shakespearean [name]Olivia[/name] better, and I liked that she could be [name]Liv[/name]/[name]Livy[/name], [name]Olive[/name], or even [name]Via[/name], etc.
I also like the Hebrew [name]Livana[/name] nn [name]Liv[/name].
