Liv vs. Lucy

Siblings: [name_m]Ty[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] & [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. Last name sounds like “[name_u]Harper[/name_u]”.

Backstory: [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] was my favorite on my shortlist of names, which also included [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. He countered with [name_f]Liv[/name_f], which he really likes, but seems open to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] if that was my favorite. These two seem like they have the most mutual ground between the two of us. Some days I really like [name_f]Liv[/name_f]: it sounds like a strong name for a teenager or adult. But it also sounds kind of harsh to my ear and not as sweet as [name_m]Ty[/name_m] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I’m ok with Livi as a nn, but not sure I like it as much as [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], which sounds very sweet to me.

What do you think the little girl will like more? [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]? Which goes better with her siblings?

I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]; it’s on my shortlist as well. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is soft and sweet, and I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] fits that same description.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] definitely! Classic and sweet and goes with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] really well.

I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] by itself more, but I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with your children.

I like both, but I wonder if a lot of the little Olivias out there will be going by [name_f]Liv[/name_f] when they are older? I think a little girl would prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] since [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sounds like “live.”

I also like both, and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] nearly made our agreed-upon list too, but with so many little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s in our area, we were pretty sure we’d be sick of the name before we ever used it. That might be something you’ll want to take into consideration with [name_f]Liv[/name_f], because that’s the most common short form of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. Maybe check your regional/country stats for the name [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] if you can?

Overall though, I’d pick [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], just because I have a soft spot for her.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is my favorite–I think it sort of spans the trendy (good trendy, not bad trendy), popular, friendly feel of [name_m]Ty[/name_m] and the vintage, up-and-coming [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. It feels modern and on-trend, but not ridiculously popular (although there are enough names that could give you [name_f]Liv[/name_f] that are). [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is more popular, and stylistically is PERFECT with [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but I’m not sure it spans the styles of [name_m]Ty[/name_m] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] does to me. (Then again, I’m incredibly biased–I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] names, and I’ve never really seen the appeal of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], personally, unfortunately! I can see her merit, but it’s just not for me.)

Good luck!

I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but I might be biased since it is my best friend’s name.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is my favorite name of all time, but, I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] works better in your case. It’s also a beautiful name. Good luck!

I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and i think it goes better with your sibset.

I love both, but prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

Why not [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] called [name_f]Liv[/name_f]? Its not an obvious nickname but I think it works. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] seems like it works better with [name_m]Ty[/name_m] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] in my opinion. But I think you could have it both ways.
