So I’m interested in using [name]Liv[/name] as a first name, especially since it is not very common.
However, with [name]Olivia[/name] in the top 5, I’m wondering if [name]Liv[/name] will actually seem super popular.
[name]Do[/name] most Olivias go by the nickname “[name]Liv[/name]”? [name]Do[/name] the Olivias you know use their nicknames just with family and close friends, or do they go by their nicknames exclusively and introduce themselves as [name]Livy[/name], [name]Livie[/name], and [name]Liv[/name]? If my future daughter, [name]Liv[/name], is in a class with 10 Olivias, will they all be called the same thing?
[name]Every[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] I know goes by the nickname [name]Liv[/name], unfortunately.
I’ve been thinking about this exact issue! I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] (and the popularity doesn’t bother me), but I lovelovelove the spunkiness of just [name]Liv[/name]. I love [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Maren[/name] (which is my combo), but I also really, really like the combo [name]Liv[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]. And [name]Liv[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]. I think it’s a beautiful name.
I’ve been afraid that [name]Liv[/name] (or even [name]Livia[/name]/Liviana) would be lost in the sea of Olivias. Would it be worth it? I mean, I’ve heard from people who are actually parents (I’m not yet) that the teacher will call your child what you want them to, but people gets nicknames, even if parents and teachers don’t encourage it.
For what it’s worth, I’ve only met one [name]Olivia[/name] in person, and she only ever went by [name]Olivia[/name]. Then again, I was only around her for about 3 hours, and about half of that time was during a church service, so I have no clue if her family called her anything more than [name]Olivia[/name]. But when she entered the class (basically like [name]Sunday[/name] School) where I play the piano, they introduced her as [name]Olivia[/name], and whenever her parents tried to get her attention, she was always called [name]Olivia[/name]… so I don’t know if that’s much help or not, lol.
Good luck!
I have 3 [name]Olivia[/name]'s in my class and one goes by [name]Olivia[/name], one [name]Liv[/name] and one [name]Livie[/name]. There is one [name]Olivia[/name] in the neighboring classroom (she is kind of naughty so I always hear her name being called out) and she is called [name]Olivia[/name] or [name]Ollie[/name].
I think the [name]Liv[/name] is a lovely name but people may assume that her full name is [name]Olivia[/name] kind of like an [name]Addie[/name] would always be assumed to be short for [name]Addison[/name] instead of [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Adeline[/name] or just [name]Addie[/name] alone.
Obviously [name]Olivia[/name] isn’t as popular as [name]Emily[/name], [name]Sophie/name, [name]Isabelle/name(abella) or [name]Madison[/name] and it feels like it might be slowly falling out of popularity.
If you’re interested in [name]Liv[/name] because it’s “uncommon,” I think you’d better look somewhere else. While most Olivias I know are generally called [name]Olivia[/name], every single one I’ve ever met (and my area seemed to be ahead of the curve on the [name]Olivia[/name] front- there were 3 in my graduating high school class of 100) responded to [name]Liv[/name]. If you love the name and will no matter what the popularity, then absolutely use it. But if you only like it because it’s uncommon on paper, don’t use it. For that matter, don’t use any name because it’s uncommon on paper- you never know whether any given name will see a sudden spike in popularity or if it’s incredibly popular in your specific area.
I love [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Liv[/name] too, but the popularity of [name]Olivia[/name] and apparently of [name]Liv[/name] as it’s nickname kept them off my short list. Are you set on [name]Liv[/name], or are there other names you’re considering? I remember seeing the name [name]Vivia[/name] somewhere on the web last year and thinking it looks and sounds beautiful and has an [name]Olivia[/name] feel to it.
My name is [name]Olivia[/name] and I’ve always loved it. But 20+ years ago when my mom picked that name for me, it wasn’t #4 on the list of most popular baby girl names, like it is now.
I rarely go by the full [name]Olivia[/name]. Always [name]Liv[/name], [name]Olive[/name], or [name]Livy[/name]. So, I personally think that a full first name of [name]Liv[/name] will get mixed in with all of the other Olivias when she’s in school.
