[name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Livia[/name_f] have a lot of issues with her name being assumed to be [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/[name_f]Alivia[/name_f]? Is it passable on its own as a name in modern times? I know it has a lot of history but it isn’t a very familiar name like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is. What do you think?
I looked up the (quite extensive) history on the name [name_f]Livia[/name_f], & was surprised! I know of a 9/10 year old named “[name_f]Alivia[/name_f]”, and at first I only saw her name written down. So I pronounced her name “Ay-[name_f]Liv[/name_f]-Ia” with the hard “A” sound like the first “A” in “[name_f]Ava[/name_f]”.
I was very soon corrected–It is pronounced like “[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]”, but spelled with an “A” instead of an “O”.
I have really liked the names [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Livia[/name_f], & [name_f]Liv[/name_f] for years.
I think it’s passable. If someone inquires if her whole name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], for example, it’s a little chance for you to educate them!
I think it’s super pretty. It may present a problem meeting people for the first time, but I think it’s easy to just laugh it off like, Oh no it’s just [name_f]Livia[/name_f] actually. And I think if you were to correct people with a smile rather than annoyance, she wouldn’t be so bothered by it growing up because she’d learn to take it in stride. But if it would annoy you to correct people, I’d avoid using it.
Personally I think it’s the kind of name that’s familiar enough and recognizable enough to use while still having a unique quality that a lot of people are looking for. I’d definitely consider it myself.
I think that will certainly be an issue.
[name_f]Livia[/name_f] is a beautiful name. It is quite possible that people may assume it is a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but if you pronounced it clearly ([name_f]LIV[/name_f]-ee-ah) I can’t think that there’d be a real mix-up with ol-IV-ee-ah unless someone actually wasn’t listening . . . but that may just be because I pay attention to people’s names.
Personally I think it’s such a lovely name that unless the possibility of such issues really, really annoys you, it should be totally worth it!
I love it! I actually don’t think there will be much of an issue. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] looks pretty legit to me, and just correct anyone if they mispronounce it
