Liza or Eliza?

I want to name my kid [name_f]Liza[/name_f] but thinking of going with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] instead… Which is better?

I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] more. It seems more complete, and [name_f]Liza[/name_f] is a perfectly nice nickname for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]!

I just think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] might be more classy and better when she’s older and then she can choose if she wants to be called [name_f]Liza[/name_f] or not.

I vote for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. You could always call her [name_f]Liza[/name_f] as a NN.

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] with the nn [name_f]Liza[/name_f]! It’s beautiful!!
[name_f]Liza[/name_f] reminds me too much of [name_f]Liza[/name_f] Minnelli, which isn’t a bad association, just such a strong one imo!

I think the biggest factor is how the different number of syllables sound with your last name.

That being said, I personally prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] because it feels fresher, brighter, and ready for new use- but this opinion is largely based on the age and strength of the names’ pop culture associations.

Eliza reminds me of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Doolittle from [name_f]My[/name_f] Fair [name_f]Lady[/name_f], but that reference is really fading, whereas [name_f]Liza[/name_f] still feels occupied by [name_f]Liza[/name_f] Minnelli. And I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is getting some new relevance from [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] fame.

Also, if you choose [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], you can use [name_f]Liza[/name_f] as a nickname- great two-for-one deal, if you ask me!

I personally prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], both sonically and for nickname purposes. Also, I really can’t think of anything other than [name_f]Liza[/name_f] Minnelli when I hear [name_f]Liza[/name_f], and while that is a pretty good association, I think it could be many people’s immediate thought when hearing the name.

That said, they’re both lovely names and if you truly prefer [name_f]Liza[/name_f] then go for it!
